Just returned the Bounty Hunter to Cabelas and ordered a Garrett Ace 250..
Thanks for all the help

The bottom line is,"you get what you pay for" especially in the MD arena unless you get a good deal on a used high quality one but as one poster said, "you could get a not so good one and get burned" so you are taking a chance there.

I honestly would say wait and save more money and get a $500-600 MD. What's the rush? For most of us the season is dwindling as the colder temperatures are approaching. If you are in that category then your time to MD is short.

If you do not want to wait. Then look at these three:

I would say get the Bountyhunter because it has a longer guarantee than the Garrett 250 by 3 years and it operating frequency will reach deep in the ground and I have personally seen a guy I know use one and he's using a lower end model and it's all beat up and he's pulling silver out of the ground all the time in a hunted out park that I MD in.

Here's the reviews for the BH:

I just read all the reviews for this BH model and everyone loved it.

The Tesoro's have a nice reputation and do offer a good bang for the buck with those who have a limited budget

Just my 2

BIll the 250 is on order. Should have it by next weekend

That's true to a degree but there is a point of diminishing returns. Spend the most amount of money and get yourself a high-end MD and learn the thing and you'll surpass someone with a low end MD every time. There are people in my state park who have years of skill ahead of me but their using low end MD and I am picking up the stuff they are missing. Skill can only make up so much for the deficiency of the machine. You can have all the skill in the world and it will not win you a car race if your car is sub par below all the other cars. The superior car with the best driver and his skills wins and does it consistently.

Congrats on the 250! Love mine and have FUN on somedays. Set that sensitivity at 3-4 and start out either in the coins mode or jewelry mode to get a feel for it and the trash and treasure and the sounds they make. Make sure when you put it together that you don't get the coil cable at the top in a bind (where it screws in). I did mine and it took me a week to realize that every time I swung the detector it would pull at the connector and cause some false signals. It is FUN!

which ever detector you chose there will be a learning curve that takes time to learn how the detector tell you what it see's thats why somany have gave up they just don't take the time. DIG AND LEARN than you'll see why we love are hobby.
