What machine is best in heavy trash using small coil?

This kind of question will get you a list of most of the higher end detectors which will be of no help. The F75 is a fast machine but loves iron so if in heavy iron trash it's not good. Fast beep and dig machines also would not be of much help. Machines with good effective iron masking, fast recovery, multi-tone, with small coil available would work pretty well.

"Machines with good effective iron masking, fast recovery, multi tone, with small coil available"......... which detectors are you talking about? To me,it seems you are saying have a look at a list of top detectors which you say is no help.Give us a clue to what you would recommend.

The two Tesoro's (DeLeon and Cibola) that I've hunted with have both done well in picking out good targets from iron, just last week I dug two targets with my Cibola that had a nail in the same hole as the coin and that was using the stock coil not my 5.75. Hope this helps.

Couldnt have said it better.. Back in about 74 or 75,I met a guy who was searching with a Compass Coinhusler 1,I believe. I'm in Hawaii at the time.He found by placing a piece of gum wrapper at a certain spot on the coil,he could rule out good from bad. Said he found many rings and a Rolex watch on Waikaki Beach. I hunted the beach with a C&G Tech. Lynx and worked great til I got on the park area Ala Muana,I think.I could lay a quarter down on the surface and it would actually Null over it..So, I searched the park by reverse tone.. ha

I'll put in another plug for Whites. Several years back I picked up an MXT complete with the 950 Stock coil, the 5.3 eclipse coil and the 4X6 eclipse shooter coil. My first outing started in a very trashy park swinging the 950. The sound in my headphones was like listening to a macnine gun due to the trash. I was going to try the 5.3, but found I only had the 4X6 with me so I put that on. What a difference. That little coil is near surgical in heavy trash and I ended up retrieving a lot of goodies that had been masked. It's not the coil for covering ground or exceptional depth, but for handling heavy trash, getting close to fences or playground posts etc. it's really something. Best to hunt small areas methodically and slowly and carry a larger coil for lighter trash and more coverage.

No question, the White's IDX is awesome for heavy trash with a small coil. I used one extensively with the 6 1/2" concentric coil and it was great. I am a park/school hunter and it was always in my trunk as my second detector for when I got into the heavy trash. Plus, it's a classic White's analog design with the knobs and heavy duty metal box. What's not to like?

The IDX ruled in the trash until I bought a Gold Bug Pro. I bought the GB Pro for nuggetshooting but soon discovered it did pretty darned good for coins too. Not only that, but I soon noticed it had a heckuva recovery speed to boot. SO I did a fair amount of head-to-head testing of my IDX with my GB Pro. The IDX was definitely a little deeper, especially with the adjustable ground balance mod, but here was my unmistakable conclusion: the GB Pro was consistently better for recovery speed and separation in the trash! I did tests in a variety of soils and with a variety of targets at different distances apart and buried targets too. The GB Pro was distinctly better than the IDX for target separation in heavy trash. The IDX still got better depth, but my XL Pro gets even better depth than the IDX and the XL Pro is what I use until the trash gets too heavy, then it's all about recovery speed and out comes the backup detector with the small coil.

In the end, I reluctantly sold my IDX and bought the larger DD coil for the GB Pro to compliment the stock 5" coil. Now my GB Pro does double duty as my nuggetshooter PLUS park/school heavy trash separator. The IDX ruled the heavy trash areas for many years, but has finally been dethroned by the GB Pro. Try one and you will be simply amazed at how good it is.

I am sending this to apologize for the remarks that I made to you a while back, and ask your forgiveness. We have a common port Hudson relic hunting buddy- Ronnie McCallum...
