What machine are you going to get next??

Just bought a VX3 after selling my V3I

Huh?
I'm curious why you went from a V3i to a VX3? Is it because the VX3 is less complicated?
What are the primary differences?
I just got a V3i and have found it to be an awesome machine! I've been going over this small area of a park with
my Deus (which is a fantastic detector by the way) and my E-trac, and Detech Chaser and then with my V3i.
The V3i finds goodies that the others don't. Now one caveat: It is **possible** I just didn't get my coil over the goods
with the other detectors prior to going over them with the V3i. The best test would be to do a comparison with each
target with each machine. Sometimes I will take both the E-trac and V3i or Detech and V3i out and compare targets.
The Detech is awesomely DEEP even with the 9" coil! But the V3i is also very deep and very good in trash with the stock D2 10" coil.

Put your detector on a remote controlled toy that can travel in sand and have your headphones be wireless. When the coil gets over the object, remotely stop the toy, get up, dig the gold,
sit back down and start again.

You hit the Nail right on the head. I wanted a new Detector so I traded my V3i for the ETRAC. Loved the ETRAC but started seeing I had not increased my finds and I really missed that wonderful screen. I really did not want another complicated V3i with all those filters, correlate mode, boost, and all the other adjustments that had me confused quite often. I wanted the V3i back without the complications, thus VX3. Still waiting on it but I think I will enjoy it. I still have an ETRAC by the way.

I just got my next and last detector this past summer, I got the E-trac and even as a beginner my silver coin count has went way up. So I may get another coil or two but I am staying with the E-trac.

I am glad I tried the E-trac.

There are qualities about machines and operators that I want to mention. A friend from the other forum and I went detecting last weekend for a day at 2 places we’ve both never been to. He was using the V3i(his eTrac was left in the truck) and I was using the CTX. I found 4 silver coins and I think 8-9 wheats while he did not manage a single wheat or silver coin. Of course the CTX isn’t an eTrac but it doesn’t have to be. Would he have dug any of the coins I did? I don’t know. That is a huge gap in finds,it’s likely not just a matter of chance. Would he have fared better with the etrac? Hard to say. But I look at numbers. If you’re doing better with your latest machine, good. If not, there’s a decision to make.
I think that’s a wise choice Ron,and I’m likewise staying with the CTX for the same reason...my finds went way up. I’ve hunted hard with it for 2 seasons and still have much to learn. The nuances and abilities of FBS has proven to be well beyond anything else I’ve tried, which have just been a few units. Given time,I’m sure we will continue to be impressed with what we have, and not with what we COULD have. As with detecting, greener grass isn’t necessarily a good thing...

I'm glad I cut my teeth on the Minelab Safari. I do a lot of research on MD'ing and various machines so I know the direction I need to go. I started MD'ing in January of this year and like everyone else you lose a lot of good targets because you don't know what the hell you are doing. But the time spent is invaluable to your education. I've read A Sabisch's Etrac book twice now and I play with the emulator in preparation for my purchase of the Etrac. Honestly, I'm not sure that the Etrac is gonna give me anymore in finds than the Safari because I am at a total comfort level with it and I am extremely confident in what it can do. After all, they are both FBS machines. But I will get the Etrac, just because it keeps my new hobby interesting.

Happa54,

I've never thought of the Safari as a beginners detector. Not even close. The Quattro, Safari, Explorers and Etrac are all FBS detectors, each with different feel and levels of features. Some people like detectors with all sorts of settings and options to play and experiment with, others with fewer settings and a detector that just works. Sometimes certain detectors and detectorists JUST FIT TOGETHER. Andy has a book specifically on the Minelab Safari and Quattro. If you haven't had a look at it, you should give it some consideration. Perhaps you can glean something out of his book to up your game with the Safari.

Looking over my shoulder back to the 80's, there are a few detectors that I sold in order to get the next latest greatest thing that I wish I could've had back. I wish I would have tried the latest thing first to see if I liked it before abandoning an old friend that was working well. It would have saved me some grief along the way.

Best of luck out there.
