What is your first stop with your brand new Equinox?

"I'd agree with Steve about fndng 'keepers', missed by previous detecting outings.
Strangely enough, some of the 'strange audio reports' I've considered passing up actually were decent non ferrous low conductive items like small rings, ear rings, straight items or bits broken off larger pieces of jewelry! This would apply to grass hunting only. Dry sand can give cleaner audio.

Re-hunting your 'worked out' park with the Equinx [ should give up ] many copper and some silver coins acc to Steve H"

We will have to wait and see.

One thing I notice.

It seems to me Equinox reports of actual digs in USA have been done in the western parts of USA.

Isn't the ground amped up higher with minerals out there.

And just what were the reports coming out of detectival (where the ground I think is milder)?

What I am getting at.
The Equinox may really show its stuff (have a greater advantage) in higher mineral soil.

So folks may not find as many supposed missed coins, etc in milder ground sites pounded in the past.

We might could even say the same thing here about fbs detectors (what happened with them) when released.
But granted all indications are Equinox looks to be better performer in and near ferrous vs fbs/fbs2.
Not to mention the fact, Minelab says fbs/fbs2 detectors still have some advantage for locating higher conductive targets.

Look I am not trying to start an argument or question posts but in looking at the various forums catering to one specific machine or another, as soon as a new detector comes out people post finds that make it seem that the detector is the "cat's meow". In some cases I have contacted the poster and found out that the targets were not that deep and not in high trash areas. Also, when someone says they went to a worked out park I also have to pause as many of my better finds of late come from these areas.

The Equinox will be a solid performer but will it make all other single frequency VLF detectors obsolete? There is a market for low-to-mid range detectors so detectors such as the E-Trac and CTX 3030 among other high end units did not make them obsolete.

We all use what works for us and there are times when I grab a sub-$400 detector and at other times, one that costs 10X that . . . . . no different than fishing, golf, . . . pick your poison. If the detector works for you in your area and for your applications, then that is the right detector for you . . . . . hence the wide range of choices that are out there in this relatively small niche hobby.

We all need to take a deep breath and wait for units to be delivered to actual users to see what the consensus is

That is the I call the "Grab" we are both refering to, the ability of any machine to see a target quickly and effortlessly whether it be masked or deep in real time.
We are seeing multiple reports with the same results on beach and land hunts, you might some discount some results but you can't ignore them all!

this is how I sort through the internet discard all talk of the best yet and discard reports of total rubbish and the truth will lie in the middle somewhere and I freely share my method with no gain to me. but in saying that i will test myself if i feel the urge to reach in to my pocket and wont share my findings because no one gives a sh$t only me :bouncy:

and i do agree with Andy that my humble 400 $ can kick your 2500$ in the right situations and this detector wont beat my 400 $ detector either in the use i have for it and that's life there is no perfect anything...

lets see when this thing hits the ground and the hackers get to it, then the fun will begin :bouncy:

No argument here Andy, as I stated before we welcome and look foreword to your test results! Everyone has different views/ opinions and they are welcome as well.

To some test sites that are void of relics to see if it will open them up again. If not the Game Changer, on to the next piece of propaganda.

No,
Better idea.
Head to Oprah's house.

I hear she has a gold toilet seat in her bathroom.

See if Equinox goes dingy dingy on it. Lol

I'd have to wear a gas mask which I don't have. I'm sure it would stink to high heaven. They don't call it "filthy riches" for nothing. :beers:

Andy --

Basically, I agree with you.

Please understand that I'm not trying to "start an argument" either. Not by any stretch. My "style," so to speak, is to enjoy "debate." NOT necessarily to "win," but in my mind, when two people really dig into the details and scrutinize points, in a "back and forth" discussion, very often an education ensues, as a result. Sometimes, this "education" occurs for one or the other of the "debaters," but OFTEN, it instead happens for a few of the folks on the sidelines who are observing. And to me, that's what many of us are here for, to learn. At least, I am...

Really, that was the whole point of my post -- to scrutinize some of the finer details, and maybe something useful for someone would flow out of the discussion.

I TOTALLY agree that as soon as the Equinox comes out, we are going to hear lots of "this machine is magic and it's finding things way better than my other machine," just like we will hear some "this thing is crap, all I'm digging is junk, Minelab lied to me!" Neither of those knee-jerk reactions are very helpful.

As AJ said, the truth will likely be in the middle, and I'd think it won't be particularly hard to discern the "well-reasoned and fair" commentaries from the nonsense. Finally, as most have said, all of this talk is largely "hot air" anyway, until the machines are released. BUT -- what are forums for, if not "talking about detectors and detecting?!!" Gotta do something to pass the time, especially in the winter when the weather is often not so conducive to actual detecting... :)

Cheers!

Steve

First stop, air test to get an idea where all targets hit. Then on to the test garden, depending on how it does there it will be going on the classified or in my closet till the weather gets better.....;o)
