What is you favorite scoop...?

Go to @#$*()& and take a look at his T-Rex...it is 9 1/2 inches wide, 11 1/2 inches long and 5 inches high...I have been using it sense he started selling them which has been about 2 months....it is SS and extremely strong with 1/4 inch holes and the

handle which is a shovel handle and on a "I think" 70 degree angle which makes digging easy...the wood handle to me is much better in water than a metal one...I used the RTG for a while and liked it but it was to small for water detecting. I have never used

the Stavr or the Stealth and I bet they are great, but with that said, I would not trade the T-Rex for any of them after my experience with it...just take a look and maybe someone else can chime in if they have used it with their likes or dislikes.

Wow! I just got my first water scoop, the new one from sunspot. I cracked up when I opened the box and my husband says I'm crazy. It's huge. But I think it will be ok in the water. Just have to get the extra handle to help lift it! Anyone else tried it??

RTG 2 Scoops, I have a 6 in. stainless steel with a the ninety degree handle added. If I had ti do it again i would buy the 6 in aluminium, the stainles is heavy. I also have a RTG travel scoop, it works well. I have a Nuttal, great scoop for gravel etc.but heavy, the handle floats which is nice. I would like to try a Stealth, but not willing to buy one to see if I like it.,

The bigger the bucket the heavier it is when it's full of wet sand.
The longer the bucket and with a bent handle the more vertical you can dig faster to keep up with the deep PI machines.
If you can operate the scoop with one hand you don't have to lay down your detector. (smart assist handles)
The more you practice pinpointing the better you get at it and you can get by with a narrower bucket.

My bucket is 6 x 6 square opening and 14 1/2 inch long with a SS lip on aluminum bucket.
I think a "smart" handle is more important than most people think.
If you don't have to bend over when digging that is huge.

My bucket and handle combination weighs just under 5 pounds.
When my bucket is full of wet sand it weighs about 20 pounds.

I carry the scoop horizontally with a shoulder strap so the scoop is far above the coil and it leaves my other hand free.(rest my grip)

If the bucket sifts sand too quickly it is hard to dig with it and remove sand from a hole if you have a deep target.
That's another tradeoff.

I think the handle is very important and the joint between the bucket and handle has to be a thru the wall connection and welded for strength.
Overall weight is important so I went with aluminum with a SS lip.

WoW! These are some good suggestions. I am leaning toward the T-Rex because of the small holes (1/4"), the number of holes, and the size of the scoop. The Stavr Monster 10 looks good too; actually there are several in the top ten and it is almost a "coin toss" finish. The one big issue with the T-Rex is price; it is a bit higher than I was hoping...

thanks
John
