What is the meaning of Amen?

Jadesun

New member
Can anyone give me the meaning of this word?
I've heard it used alot by many religions.
What does it mean?

Welcome Jadeson! And the answer I have from my Christian raising and in knowin Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior! When we pray to our Lord Jesus and say Amen it means....so be it or the end! Whatever we've prayed we want it to be in God's Holy Will! I hope this answers your question! May God Bless! Ma Betty

Amen means .... Let it be so, or so be it.
That is not the dictionary definition.

Hope you stop by again.

God bless.

Yes, But it also means, I agree.

1John 5:8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit and the water, and the blood:
And these three agree in one.

Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they agree?

Matthew 18:11 Again I say unto you,That if two of you agree
on earth as touching anything that they may ask, It shall be
done for them of my Father which is in Heaven.

So we as Gods people have to be careful what we say Amen to.
You might be agreeing to something that doesn't line up with the word.

The phrase "So let it be" is really is an agreement, that God can and will if it is in his will. I think the deeper point is that Amen is a statement of our faith that God has the ability and power "to let it be so"

I do agree that we should be carefull and consider the usage and what it means to us at the end of a prayer. Also we should consider that the word is also used in casual conversation as an agreement between two people and (IMO) becomes as good as giving your word that this is the way it will be. Let your yes be yes and your no be no.

I also think we should be carefull not to throw the word around flipantly, so as not to corupt the word and its integrity in language will be upheld.

Just a thought
Jeff

Praying is like talking to God through our faith in Him, as we would write a letter to someone we love or know as friends! I haven't ever put Amen to an end of my letters unless I have a prayer attached! Amen is saying, The end, after we pray or write a letter to God or someone else! I have never said, the end....but that is what it means when we are finished praying or writing! Let it be so is prayed that God's will be done....just like Jesus prayed before going to the cross to His Father, to let this cup pass from me, but not My will but Thine be done! We can't pray amiss and expect our prayers to be answered, but when we believe in our hearts by faith in Him and do not pray against His Word (for He will not do anything against His Word which is the truth of God) He will hear and answer as long as it is for our good and for His purpose! We have a good God and He knows our hearts even when we don't really know how to pray and that is when His Holy Spirit prays through us giving the words to pray! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

I was always taught that amen means we agree with what was said. That is why you hear people say amen when a preacher is praying.
Welcome to the forum.

This word is a special word. It is not a period. or an ending.
This word was used by the Lord Jesus in many ways.
One, was to let his disciples know that what his word says is true.
One was show agreement!
When we end a prayer in Amen, We are agreeing, not ending the prayer.
Jesus used Amen in different ways, somethings in the beginning on a Verse." Truly"-" Verily"
Amen brings us into agreement, and puts the prayer into spiritual action
We need to know the Biblical meaning of Amen not the "church" meaning.
Truth, Agreement,
Google this (What does Amen mean ) for more understanding of this awesome word.

God Bless, and remember, With all your getting get understanding!

Thaks for the welcomes all! God bless you to Ma Betty

Good to know, Jadesun and thanks! I guess in my own thinking that I was saying to God this is the end of my prayer, poem, talking to Him and etc. But I still always said, Amen! And I always tried to say, Your will be done and not mine, but sometimes I would forget altough He already knows what is in my heart, for His love through Jesus Christ is within me! Amen! Ma Betty

I just noticed I said when a preacher is praying I meant to say when a preacher is preaching.

I say Amen to both when preaching and praying....when I agree that is! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

Still though God sees what is in our heart regardless of how you end your prayer, The absence of Amen does not mean you do not agree or have faith. We still need to pray in a present and personal fasion and not get trapped into saying or not saying a word or phrase just because that is what we "always do". Do not become trapped in tradition, keep it fresh.

Jeff

I don't think I say Amen after my personal prayers and talks with God in the name of Jesus....mostly I say, Thank You, Lord, and I love You but when others pray I do say Amen when praying for me or someone else! It is our person belief and faith in Jesus that is the most important for God to hear! May God keep on blessing His own and our USA nation with a good election of godly wise and Common Sense leaders! Amen! Ma Betty

Is it common sense to start a war under false pretense and spend Billions unpon billions of tax payer dollars to fund it.
Is it common sense to let young soldiers die for a cause that is not helping America,
The president is bring our troops home, ending the war, which in turn will free up tax payer dollars.
Then we can focus on our economy, which was fine until the so called common sense leaders to office.
Come on, Take the blind folds off, Get out and see what is really going on.
I'd rather spend my taxes to help some poor senior who has a illness get health care, over funding a war
that was started under false pretenses.

My God is a God of love not of Hate . Hate blocks your blessings
Hate blocks you from God!.
Bearing false witness blocks you from God!
So, to call yourself a Christian and have hate and malious toward others is being a Hypocrite.

Blessed rather are those who hear the word of the Lord and obey it. Luke 11:28

Well, it looks like you are one of the problelms with America! The illegal aliens are criminals breaking our laws and getting freebees that are not paid for by them but by the Senior Citizens and generations coming up after us! I will help those that need help but I will not help criminals who take advantage of our Gov't when Mexico and other countries won't allow us to have churches or speak about Jesus for spreading God's Gospel Word to those who need to hear Jesus! You sound like a Liberal and/or a Communist which is the problem in America! A Liar is a Liar as well as a Spade is a spade! I am sorry, but I am a born-again, Spirit-filled Christian to whom God's Holy Spirit speaks through and guides my footsteps! You vote for BO and his cohorts if you want to, but don't say I call myself a Christian under false pretenses! I have lived many years on Earth, was young but old enough to understand what World War II was about and BO and Hitler are the same and Germany fell because of his Socialistic, dictatorial views and was defeated because of our military willing to fight and peoples' prayers in the 1940's! Hiltler fooled the majority of the people just like BO is doing and by the time they realized the truth....6 million Jews and other ones who were against his 3rd Regime were tortured, starved and murdered! No I will not post anything different about our present Administration but doesn't mean I won't pray for them! Get thee behind me satan!!! Strong words, but that is how I feel....says to get angry but sin not...and I haven't as I don't call them names like some people I have read their comments, nor do I lie and fix the polls to vote illegally, nor have I hurt or killed anyone! I think you are the one and others like you that need to wake up! When the blind lead the blind THEY ALL FALL IN THE DITCH! That's my thoughts and if I'm wrong God's Holy Spirit will let me know and reprimend me....so far the only time He has given me a spaken is when I refused to read a poem in Church about drugs, sex and etc. that was given me to read to the congregation and that night there was a lot of teenagers present!

May God is love, too, but He hates the sin and we are to spread the truth of God to the world and tell them that sinning is wrong! If you are hurt or angry at me then I have done my job of preaching to you and giving you information that you and others need to know, for Jesus was ridiculed and hated and I am not above my Master and will be ridiculed and hated too! May God Bless you to see and hear His absolute truth and as far as the war in Irag, if Pres Bush hadn't send our military over there, Sadam Hussein would still be a dictator torturing and killing people just like Hitler did during World War II. The Korean War and Vietnam War and etc. were fought against Socialism and Communism to keep us free from us and others being captured and under their dictatorship! Had we not entered World War II and defeated Japan and Germany, we would be speaking their languages and living under their dictators and not able to speak, print or anything to do with God and Jesus! Wake UP....before it is too late! Ma Betty
