What is the Best WAY to determine depth with the Deus 2

On my Deus 1's i used to use the horse shoe but now i am told that does not work on the Deus 2 ? Anyone have any input ?

Of course all we can really get from a detector is an approximation of depth....and there are many factors that go into that calculation such as signal strength, target size or orientation, etc. I use Audio Response at 3 or 4 to give me an indication of target depth. It's not an accurate determination of depth at all but in some places that I hunt I am looking for that subdued audio signal that gets my brain's attention. You can train your ear to ignore the louder surface junk and home in on the potentially deeper targets or smaller weaker shallow signals. Some folks don't care for it just set the Audio to 7. But I find it be helpful, and like the volume nuance that a setting of 3 or 4 gives me.

Exactly what I’ve found as well. All of it. I use Pitch on all programs to tell target intensity. I’m looking for that soft, drawn out “wah-wah” sound of deep coins. Simply using the coil lift test can also tell you something about depth, as long as you’re COIN HUNTING. If you’re looking for axe heads….not so much. Since almost all of my old coins I hunt wind up being small, I assume the target is dime sized and work from there. The more you use it the more it’ll come into view. I’ve only got about 50 hours on the D2 so far and it’s clicking very well… much of that has to do with using Pitch. Just 2c….

I don't have a deus but when using a dd coil and wiggling (?) Coil forward and back to pinpoint, the shorter distance means the target is deeper or as we also know can be smaller. Hope that made sense.
EXCELLENT point! To clarify if someone didn’t get that….if you can wiggle the coil back and forth and get a pinpoint response the ENTIRE length of the coil…not so deep. If it only responds for, say, the middle THIRD of the coil…that would indicate a deeper target or something very very tiny close to the surface. Good one Mud!😃

Deus shows signal strength, calibrated to ring size target. A flicker of signal could be a dime at 8 inches, or it could be tiny copper washer at 2 inches, the detector cannot tell the difference. Likewise a squashed flat aluminum can at 8 inches can sound like a quarter at 1 inch. Luckily, there are not many tiny copper washers or squashed cans.

i doubt you can as i get large and not so large lumps of rusty steel at depth giving good numbers and you have to waste time finding out ,it could be a hoard

I have the regular Deus. The horseshoe is on the screen but I have never paid attention to it. As a matter of fact, I rarely use the remote at all. If the signal sounds good, I dig it, If the signal is small and faint but it is out of the hole in a couple of inches, it is tiny. If the signal is loud and still in the ground at 5 inches or more, it is something big. In my opinion relying on the horseshoe is as reliable as relying on the VIDs, too many variables.

On my CTX3030 it reported in inches and most times it was right on for silver coin sized targets. I think that was one reason among many it was such a good coin hunter. If it was deep you knew pretty much how deep the coin was and if it was in the expected silver depth range. on the XP2 just select the program you will be using and do some air test with a ruler. the horseshoe is just a bent vertical depth gauge. Then mentally mark off the depth as you move the coin further away and you will see it the results on the horseshoe.
