i am using the Garrett Pro Pointer and it seems like i have to replace the battery almost every day as it gets so weak that i almost have to touch the target to get it to respond. are there any others that are more powerful or last longer on the battery?
thanks and HH

Send it back I have just made my first battery change since I have had it hunders of hrs of use. And mine sounds when near the target not right on it. I think theres a problem with yours.

it took 3 tries before I finally got one that was any good !! The first one fried its circuts when it was turned on... The 2nd one was like the probe your describing.. it had no depth so to speak.. you had to touch the object to get it to respond.. Finally on the 3rd try I have one that operates strong without any issues..

Garrett stood behind everyone of them.. just send it back, and they sent a brand new one out within a weeks time..

I like the product.. HH Mark ( ohio )

Uniprobe for me..... Headphones and pinpointer in one...

Call Garrett and explain your issue, in no way should you have to change the battery everyday nor should you have to touch the tip to the object to get a response.

Garrett is A+ in customer service.

When you turn it on make sure there is no metal around it or it will detune it which makes it next to useless.
I have turned mine on while holding both my digger and the Propointer in the same hand and it will not pick up anything.

I just got my Pro Pointer. I was using an old Vibra-Probe but you almost had to touch a coin sized target with the tip to get it to vibrate. The Pro Pointer seems to work from 1 - 3 inches on a coin sized target.

I really like the Uni-probe that is made in the headphones as it has great depth , small dia. probe that is easy to use. The only thing is you can not use rechargeable batteries in it as it needs the full 9 volts or it is not stable, so you know when the battery has to be changed. Mine is old and think it must be close to 10 years old and use it with the detectors I like to try out that don't have the Sun Ray probes for like my CTX and the Deus. The only 1 problem I have with mine is it is easy to bump the toggle switch and have turned it on and the battery is dead when I need it, so I carry in my pouch a extra 9 volt in a plastic bag. In all this time I think I only had to change the the replaceable cord one time and keep a spare one in case I need it and replaced the ear pads one time as they were getting hard. They may cost a little more, but for me these are the best I have found that is the probe and headphone combo and it is hard to find a used set for sale and.

OOOOOOOH AHHHHHHHHHH!!! Gotta have me one of those. Actually I have 2 propointers and love them but just not an x1!!! Maybe good ole' Minelab has the answer!

Digger - Any date estimation? Within a month, 2, ...

Can't answer that. The only reason I posted the pic was to "put to bed" some comments I've read about the new Minelab probe being "photo-shop" only. It is real. And it is awesome! HH Randy

I have the Garret, and though I don't believe it to be defective it really does eat batteries. It works well with a fresh battery, but performance seems to diminish well before the battery is completely run down.

I have a Garrett probe and find that it does well.

Works better than the Bulles Eye. I heard some
people like the pistol probe so you may want to
check the reviews on that one too!

Good luck!

I have the Garret Pro Pointer, and have had no issues with it regarding poor battery life. In fact I still have the original battery in it. Also it has excellent depth, so people who are having to touch the target to get a response most likely have a defective unit.

Here's another little interesting TIP. INCREASING THE DEPTH of the Propointer involves a neat little trick. This only works if you have a ring on the hand that you use your Pro Pointer with. Like your wedding band. Move your hand up the handle towards the front of the pinpointer until it picks up your ring, now back off just until it stops responding to your ring and leave your hand it that position. Now try to pinpoint your target again. You will find that it increases the depth of the pinpointer SIGNIFICANTLY.

Good tip Doc and will have to give it a go the next time out!!

I have a Pocket Uni-Probe. They don't make them anymore but I think they should make a RI. It is a great unit!! Uniprobes are the best!

Hi Rick,
What depth would you say you are able to pick up coins in the hole? I ask because I just got the Uni Probe and seem to have a fault in that when I wiggle the pointer its intermittently sounding, I've narrowed it down to either the socket on the headphones or the plug on the probe cable. When I hold the cable still I'm getting 2-3 inches on Large coins and 11/2 - 2 inches on small coins which I don't think is right going by the advertising, I've emailed the maker so i'll see what they come up with hopefully I'll get it sorted soon.. cheers
