and after changing my pants after finding it, I'd vote for #1. Great post El!! Thanks for helping me get thru a nasty stretch of weather. Good luck and HH. Bob.

Fine post El.
I think about what is going on now days. I have been living on a fixed income for 9 years and the government is always trying to get more and more of it from me. I see this guy stole $50 billion from people and is under house arrest. The banks are stealing $800 Billion and the incompetents in charge of large companies stealing billions more.
You ask would I let the State or Federal take most of my find? Let the landowner know? He probably has nothing what so ever to do with the find? Let him take his share?
I kind of think the sweat and toil of the past 30 or more years of on and off detecting has earned a large part of the finds value. And being the only one in the whole world out there expending energy looking for it. I think I should have the most say so in the matter and not let anyone who has nothing to do with it tell me how much I get to keep. So for me the only reasonable answer is #1.
Thanks for reading....Z

Well, the way things are going these days.....and with all the crazyness of people fighting over valuable found caches I read in articles...... I'd have to say I would keep it quiet & keep it. Maybe have it quietly appraised & then anonymously leave half of what it's worth to the owner of the property it was found on. I figure that's pretty fair.

I wouldnt want it to get out that I found some big valuable cache because the the IRS will be wanting part of it & others may want to steal it (especially if it appears on the news). Its just too much trouble to make it public.

Ps. There are also laws on the books just about everywhere that basically say if you find something that is worth more than (such & such amount).... that you have to turn it in to some authority.... and even if noone claims it.... you still run the risk of never getting it back.

IMO if you go to the trouble of finding something.... you at least deserve half of it.

if detecting on some ones land unless agreed ( written on paper ) that the owner splits half the finds before i start detecting it"s all mine. if i did find a "big" pile of loot i"d keep my pie hole shut full stop.
i think if you"ev been detecting for a wile you would have come across people who try to claim stuff that's not rightfully there's i"v had a couple try & i"m very cerefull now, it"s amazing how many people will try to rip you off if they think they can make a quick $$. in Aussie money made from a hobby is non taxable BUT if it is older than 50 years old its classed as the gruberments & they take the lot. or if new $$ & you don't hand it in to the police after finding it its classed as theft by finding. so be very careful if ya make a great find.

I've been researching a treasure tale, up here in the beautiful SNOW covered U.P. If I find it, IM KEEPING EVERY DAMM RED CENT!!! but I will show and tell yall. Maybe........

Good Luck......
