Now a picture of the G2 would be fantastic.

This is what I received from Mike Scott this am. "The version 4 is the same as the version 3, which is the same as version 2.9 and some version 1." "We made changes to all the different numbered circuts so the same circuit (4) can be used on all models and tweaked for each model." "Concerns with the revisions by end users or dealers should not be an issue especially in terms of performance." "Most revisions are for our internal reference and nothing more."

I hope that this helps out----Barney

Hmmm ! Anyone care to post a picture of the PCB of a Gold Bug SE (2.9) please. It's needed for a cross referance between the 2 and 3 version.

Thanks.

Didn't someone post that they sent their 2.9 back in for a "silver fix?

I am confused with Mike Scott's info, as I was told by a person at First Texas, in a phone call trying to understand some of the silver issues, that if I wanted to be SURE to have a Gold Bug that responded appropriately to silver, I needed to buy a Gold Bug PRO, NOT an SE. This sounds like conflicting information, to me -- as this was a clear admission that at least SOMEWHERE during the design process of these units, there WAS a change made...

Hi all.

Interesting read this even though a bit old,ive just gpt a g2 with version 1 software,my silvers pick up fine. Heres a pic of my g2 circuit board, seems its got the resistor, large capacitor, though dont know what yours looks like but the legs on the c16 large capacitor look like they have been extended.

Anyway id like to follow this more if anyone is interested in doing so.

heres the photo.

Hey Gaz,
Thanks for the pic, they are indeed the same machines! Looks like software tweaks and style are the only difference between the G2 and GB.
Looks like I have the odd guy out but I'm very happy with it, it seems to be pretty hot as far as gain goes and hits hard on small stuff. Deep as well I can hit a nickel at 8" with less than 50% gain or sensitivity. (SAME THING)...
Be Well
