what exactly is the 3 quarter recovery test?

I wanted to test the recovery speed on my Etrac and a poster mentioned placing 3 quarters three inches apart and see if you get 3 seperate tones on a fast sweep, I'm getting the three seperate tones but I'm also getting the 3 seperate tones when I place the quarters touching each other(no distance between them)..am I doing this test right?

If you touch the quarters together, you will only get one signal with any detector. If you place the three quarters at three inches apart, a fast recovery detector will get you three separate signals even at a quick sweep speed.

I'm getting three seperate tones with the quarters touching each other in a fast sweep, normal sweep and slow sweep..what do you mean no detector can do this?

If so, you must have a Super Vision. I tried it with a Vision yesterday, and it would only get one signal on the test.

Try the nail and silver dime test I described in the "Dreaded Iron Question" thread. That's a very common situation in the real world.

Are you sure that the tones you hear isnt the " flutesong" from one target and not 3 different tones from 3 objects.

I also get the flute in this test on my explorer but its the same song i get from a crushed aluminium can and not 3 different objects.

try in monotone and see if u can get 3 separate hits then.

I have used this test and several others. What I have found with the E-Trac with pro coil is you do get 3 signals on three, two or even one quarter even in single tone setup.I have come to the conclusion that the three signals are from both edges and middle of the DD Pro coil.,Ray.

Thats what i Thought....

The minelabs easily signals with several different tones on especially irregular objects and of mixed composition.
