what does "CTX" stand for ? what does "3030" stand for anyone know?

My best guess is Coin and Treasure Xtreme. The 3030 allows for future models in the same platform. Be it an upgraded version say 3040 or a scaled back version say 3020 or even 4040 and 2020. Just quessing. I think GPX stands for Gold Prospecting Xtreme so the CTX makes sense.

That is a great guess gemini, I was wondering myself but your logic seems like a very reasonable guess. Hopefully someone can verify as I was wondering how they named it as they did and why they left the concept of a "name" behind on this model. Maybe because they didn't want it to be the new explorer or e-trac, but something totally different

According to one of the developing engineers from Australia that helped teach the Minelab training class I attended said it didn't stand for anything. Maybe Minelab should have a contest for a name and give a CTX for a prize to the person that comes up with the best meaning!

I think, with the new technology, it would have been a mistake to name it after one of the older models. When they came out with the X-TERRA, they came up with a new name concept. And with the advent of FBS2, and all that it entails, they would be "selling the detector short" if they were to have simply continued naming it after the Explorer series. Even the name E-TRAC is viewed by some people as the latest model of Explorer. And I suppose there are those that will toss the CTX 3030 into that same category. But I'd suggest the majority of those who do will be those who never actually used the CTX 3030. It is truly a different breed of cat. And no, I'm not implying that the letter C stands for Cat. I guess I should have said a horse of a different color. But wait, I'm not implying that the letter C stands for Color. How about whistling a different tune? Nope, the letter T does not stand for Tunes. Maybe apple off another tree. Darnit, there's that letter T again. HH Randy

C is for Color Screen
T is for Tone adjustment
X is for marking the treasure spot

MMMM, now what is the 3030 for?

BCOOP

Nope, you're reading too much into it. My guess is Cat, Tree and .......I think maybe xylophone.

NO, no, no---you're ALL wrong!!!-----The CT means C=coins & T=treasure----as to the X--that (simply) means--"X" marks the spot that you have found that coin treasure at!!!-----Now as to the 3030---that signifies the 30 30 rifle that you are going to need (or should have) to guard the find until you can get the before-mentioned extracted (read DUG UP)!------Was that name so difficult???----It's right there before us and it's obvious that's EXACTLY what it means---"clear as mud" to me!!!----Ahh, I gotta go have a cup of coffee;)--------Del!

It was designed by an engineer to be Curvaceous Tactile and x rated, (the engineer was a bit sex mad) and the 3030 stands for the 30 cm ferrous by 30 cm non ferrous square field target separator's.
I hope that this helps. Les in the UK

Gotcha, its seconds as a musical intrument so you can play a tune when you dig your first target. :detecting::goodnight:

I know this is an old thread but i had to put in my input

Cross Terrain eXplorer

LOL, a good old thread.

I would suggest CTX3030 stands for Costs Too Extreme and 3030 = $3030 which is what they hoped to be able to sell it for. hahaha

It's obvious from the font of the "X" on the machine that the letter X is referring to a pirate map where "X" marks the spot...further than that, I haven't even thought about.

The 3030 is the number of days between software upgrades.
