What do you like best about Your Tesoro...?

Seems like this is yesterday's technology...yet you guys love them Why?
I really want to know.

I do use one Tesoro based machine but this was specfically made for the UK market, its a old design and yesterday's technology, its good for one specific site situation but would i use one for every day use my answer would be a big 'NO',they just dont come close in my mind to more modern machines.Of course this is just my personal opinion, are they a popular machine in the UK as in the US some models are used more than others but as a general rule but from observations on club digs and rallies and other major detecting events i wuld say out of every 100 machines you see you could maybe see 1-2 Tesoro or the Laser UK branded models.

They are a very popular machine in the US but not that popular over here, why they have not caught on as well i dont have a answer for that one.please note i am not saying Tesoro detectors are bad or dont perform,i am just making a statement of fact based on observations that not alot of folks use them.

Landman,
There are a lot of Tesoro fans here clinging onto old tech because it does work.
But, you will also find many loyal Tesoro forum fans "now" have in their arsenal and use other brand models that are, their finding are far superior
and are seeing Tesoros shortcomings. A Tesoro may not be their main machine to use these days.
Tesoros remind me of Garretts remind me of the original Groundhog that turned into the Scorpion technology from the 70's. It latest a long time but after all these years finally met its end.
They are no longer made but, still a very good machine..........................Garrett moved on to producing a totally new machine to replace it.

True analog technology that gives superb audio feedback that is very useful information to the trained ear.
Lightweight simple design, I can swing this detector for hours on end with little fatigue.
Easy on batteries.
Lifetime warranty, friendly customer service in the USA.
Excellent performance in the field, good depth, target separation and discrimination.
Wide selection of coil choices.
Reasonable price point.

Like Sven, I have other brands of detectors just because like variety and have a collector addiction. I still think the Tesoro brand is still a valid metal detector in my collection and have used them with success when detecting with friends with "high dollar" detectors. I still have the older models like the Bandido, Pantera, Toltec 100 etc. and when it comes to working in the iron, the Tesoros have bested all the others I have seen. The Outlaw is now my main use machine, it is just amazing what it will pull out of the old homesteads that are full of iron nails. It has a very fast response and recovery speed that is better (in my opinion) than the higher priced metal detectors that are popular.

Tesoro detectors work extremely well and are fun to use. I can't tell you how many times that I've pulled a nail out of a hole and found silver in the same hole.

Can't really say it's just the physical attributes or their performance, there's just something relaxing about using one. Ocasionally I thumb the disc to make a guess at what a target is but it can be fun just digging it up and being pleasantly surprised. Kind of like winning on a scratch off! The ultralight weight is a huge plus also

Light weight. Two years ago I ripped my bicep completely off the bone. I had it repaired and couldnt lift anything for three months. A light detector is my number one concern .

1 nine volt battery.

Real knobs , I dislike push buttons .

Great sound .

Best warranty in the industry .

Simple to learn .

Whats not to like ?

fun to use most of the time :bouncy: picking what machine and coil for what spot is a art in itself and takes some time to work out , well at least for me

as you can see I use other machines and they all have a job :detecting:

pretty sure Tesoro's are way in front for me on dirt gold.

I do say wow a lot when using them and I think its just because I probably don't think they can do what they do because they look like toys

even before I bought my 1st detector I felt drawn to them strange hey.

just fun to use pretty much sums it up.

I guess if you never used one, you dont know what you are missing. That little compadre is just so much fun to use. You just can not put it down. Very light weight and the battery will not go dead... KEN. Ind.

Tesoro machines are all I own right now. I don't think I could go back to using a detector with a screen and multiple tones for one. I like the beep, dig all and find out what's in the ground mentality for one. I got lost in screen checking in the past and digging high tones. Now I dig everything at the set disc. Reason#2- they are affordable. I do not have a lot of time to hunt right now and I do not feel guilty about having my detectors sitting in the closet for a month at a time, because they did not cost me over $500 a piece. Reason# 3. They are rugged and reliable and backed by a lifetime warranty. My Bandido II Umax is 17 years old and looks to me like it came from the factory yesterday condition wise. Same with my Eldorado Umax. Reason#4- simple and easy to use. My six year old can use my compadre and I can size it for her so she can detect comfortably. My 2 year old was swinging the compadre with my help. Wish I could have gotten it on film. His first target he found was a quarter. Reason#5- just pure fun to use every time I go out- no noisy beeping, honking, just quiet hunting until I find the target. If my Tesoro says it is there under the coil, it is right there under the coil. There is no guess work when I go hunting with a Tesoro. Reason #6 should really be # 1 and I should not say it out loud. My Tesoro units are so effective at finding the good loot that my compadre has paid for itself 18 times over in the 3 years I have owned it. That is with minimal hunting even. Reason#7 they weigh next to nothing. I could swing my Tesoros all day ( if only I had that much time to hunt). Reason#8 there are so many coils available for purchase. Having so many coil options available makes it seem like I have a whole new detector in areas I have hunted hard. The list of reasons why I love my Tesoro detectors could go on and on. The # one reason I could say is it is hard to describe to someone what chocolate cake and ice cream tastes like until they have tried it. Same thing with Tesoro detectors. It is hard to explain why people like tabman and others have more than 4 Tesoro detectors until you actually spend 6 or more month using one. Just some thoughts. HH

light weight , and i like the knobs old fashioned but they work good

Quality and simplicity. They just work.

All of the Tesoro's I own are from the 1900's(90's):)... but they still work for the type of hunting I mainly do which is in iron infested ground. I'm sure there are other brands out there that will also do well but probably not as quietly as an "old school" Tesoro. I still can't help to think that the more depth a unit gets(all brands)...it's usually at the cost of getting noisy, erratic or not as good at discriminating for the most part? Good hunting to all with whatever brand works for you!

Simple and effective, that is why I use them. I work on high tech crap all day. When I go detecting I want simple and effective. Also as far as price point, performance for dollar spent is amazing. I have nothing against the other brands and think people should use what works best for them, Tersoro or not. For me the Tesoro's are working quite well.

what I would like best about my Tesoro would be able to pry my Compadre out of my wife hands well use to be mine.

Back in December I purchased a Minelab Xterra 705 . Being new to the hobby I thought I was missing something by only having a Tesoro , well after almost 6 months of using the Minelab and the Outlaw I have come to the conclusion that I'm not! I like the Outlaw. If I want coins and a lots of them I choose it and not the Minelab. The Minelab has it beat with its all its bells and whistles but, it can't beat the Outlaws weight and its sweet sounding tone. The Disc on the Outlaw is just like the other Tesoro's " Precise ". Its like this , when I come home from work I look forward to my easy chair, at work there are all kinds of ergonomically correct chairs that are supposed to be good for me and they may in fact be but, they don't do jack for me! I can't wait to get home and back into my over stuffed easy chair. My Tesoro's are like that chair, comfortable.

Well Ive only had my Vaq since March but I love the depth even on small targets. But I also like how quite it runs even with sens. in the red.If I can only have the time to get out with it more.Only have 32 hours on it.But I did get a 41 mercury dime on hour 21.Still learning the machine with a loooooong way to go.HH

The lightening fast recovery, it's amazing and allows unbelievable separation and pinpointing. The recovery is so fast on my golden, having a pinpointing feature is or would be superfluous!
