What are your most interesting or unique finds?

I love finding coins, but it's the other finds that are often really interesting. I'd like to start a post to see what cool and unique stuff others have found. Please list 1-3 finds that are your favorites and tell us why. I'll start:

1940 Radio Orphan Annie secret decoder ring - I can remember ordering things when I was younger and getting super excited when they came in the mail. I'm 32 and still get excited over packages... Imagine the joy of the boy/girl who got this new secret decoder in the mail and then used it to decoded the messages. After finding this I got online and found some old recordings of orphan Annie from the 40's and decoded the secret messages. It was really fun and interesting! Don't forget to drink your ovaltine =)

Legion of Honor medal - Found this in an old church yard and just thought it was really cool.

Pulled/wormed Civil War bullet - Found this at a battle site down in Springfield MO. A pulled bullet means the bullet got stuck when fired and the soldier then used a tool to get it out of the barrel. At least if he pulled the bullet we know that his gun getting plugged didn't cost him his life

Very cool finds:thumbup: I will post my unusual finds as soon as I find some. Getting my etrac Friday via UPS. Can't wait to see the other posts that will be coming.

This will be an interesting post. I can not wait to see some of the cool stuff. I will have to dig around some things and see what I have came up with. I think this year it was a WW1 case I found, but the best part of it was that it was wrapped in an old news paper that had the most interesting info on it. I didnt get any good pictures of all the paper it was wrapped in but I gathered as much as I could and put it back together when I got home.

That's awesome! I can't believe the paper is still legible. I bet you were super exited to see if anything was inside :surprised: You might be able to search some exact phrases in google to see if the paper is online anywhere.

It was Hard choosing since there were so many over the past year that were interesting
This Sterling part of a WW2 Forget Me Not Bracelet that has names engraved in each part, I only found a few pieces and put them together

This is a Luggage Tag from a Canadian Rail Road that has long been out of business. As I recall it started in the 1880's and finished before 1920.

This lower part of a Statue was found at a High School and was a complete surprise. It seemed I was most impressed by this find and I still believe it special.

My Most Impressive and Special Find this past year was our Cat, Darius. He was abandoned as a Kitten in a Public Park and was existing on Bugs.

He was under a car for shade and ended up following us around as we dug, waiting while we dug and filled in the holes and then moved on with either me or the other detectorist at the dig,

He also purred and rubbed against our ankles as we walked..How could I resist!

Very cool finds! I wonder if the names on the bracelet are maybe someone's childrens names or something? I love cats so probably would have picked him up too, especially if he's interested in metal detecting =)

here are some of mine, take your pick..lol

1. decorative piece about 3" long, no idea what it is
2. musician badges, in a spill, one hole....
3. 1870's colt pistol
4. old printing plate, some kind of farm equipment
5. early 1900's brass knife
6. good luck lock in shape of a horse shoe

more..........

world's smallest harmonica
small cache of coins and tokens, wrapped in a rag, nothing more than 25 yrs old, still cool
smoking old man, pin/ash tray
another mystery decorative piece, I sold this one....
egyptian type face?
last one is a WW1 victory medal

@Goes4ever Wow you have a bunch of cool stuff! Love that ash tray =) Even though that coin cache is newer I'm sure it was really exciting to dig :surprised: I dug a leather pouch with a zipper once and it jingled so I thought it was an old coin purse. Turned out to be a catholic rosery in it but I'll still never forget the feeling. I got a modern coin cache a few days ago on vid and will upload it in the next day or so. I have the same WWI medal, dug it at an old church site. Very cool stuff thanks for sharing :clapping:

Very nice! Did you ever read about it? I remember researcing mine quite a bit when I dug it....sad that someone lost this. Would have been nice to return it to the family, but simply no way to ID who it belonged to.

I've had a few.

1. My wedding ring (here's the story and my first post - http://www.findmall.com/read.php?63,1132990,page=1 )

2. The Simplex sharpner was a signal I first passed up, then I started gettting some 100 year old coins about 15 feet away and I went back and dug this one. (this isn't mine, but a rep.....couldn't find my photo). [attachment 250488 simplex.jpg]

3. The 1893 World's Columbian Expostition was in Chicago. I dug this "commorative spoon" here in central Nebraska at an old house site on my grandparent's land. Again a rep. photo. There are six in the set....mine was the Transportion Building spoon. They were silver plated.

4. I've also dug a piece of the WWII bracelet like Eva's....mine said "Sharon".

Lastly I found this guy. He is well built and handsome!!!!! Every man's envy and every woman's desire......

I researched it when I found it but can't remember much, it was a few years ago. Would be really cool to return it, I'm sure it has a lot of value to the veteran :usan:

Very cool finds! How crazy is it that you found your own ring :clapping: That's such an awesome story, thanks for sharing =) I'm glad my wife doesn't go detecting, if she found one of those last items I'd be screwed :wiggle:

Troy

Some of us are attracted to intelligence, Humor and Integrity.

Keeping Fit and Healthy and remembering to bring flowers or a surprise on occasion.

The example you chose is specialized and Men assume it is what Women want, but.....

Really Nice Items For You and G4E

Love those Figural and the exotic Women on that knife

A few of my different type finds,

A home made bracelet made out of wheat pennies.

An Axe Head that still had the wedge nails in it.

An ID Badge with the owners picture still in it, not often do we know who dropped the item we find, but in this case it is like a ghost from the past looking into your eyes!

this is a great post..... I'll have to dig around to see what I've found cool, but I've probably passed up a lot of the cool stuff to find coins. I can't wait to see more unique finds on this thread.

Really cool finds! Love the bracelet =) Any idea how old the picture is?

One of my best finds of the year turned into three.

I found three (two in one weekend and one three months later) WWI 371st regiment medals created by the French government to honor the all black 371st regiment out of South Carolina in WWI. They were honored for Sept 28, 29 and Oct 1st 1918.

These medallions are bronze and are almost two inches in diameter.

I don't know how many were made, but probably less than 1,000. The best one of these two was donated to the SC State Museum. I still have the other two and have been looking for a permanent museum type home for one of the two I still have.
