What a morning swinging the Etrac!!! Two silvers!!!

Found a wheat penny first. The ground in the yard of this old home is so good that I was able to hear the Threshold hum 80% of the time. I slowed way down when the threshold started nulling. Anyway, I get a good hit 12-44 and 12 45 and so I dig and out popped a five inch deep Merc. I thought, what the heck, I will swing over the hole again before i refill. Sure enough, a signal like the last one. I whooped out the Propointer and quickly got a hit. Pulled the SECOND Mercury dime from the hole. Another swath over and I find a wheatie. I turn around at the public road and start to make another swath. I get a 11-30 signal. "Oh good, a Minie bullet or another bullet of some sort. I dig about a seven inch hole and sing over the hole and the plug. Target still in hole, I remove some more dirt. Out popped the Indian head (in the bottom of the pics). I can barely read 18-something on the date. It is very corroded, but a very welcome find none the less. That sucker was deep. I was hunting in 26 manual sens. Conductive tones. If in doubt about a target with a high CO number, I would push the quickmask (fully open screen with little cross cursor) and if the cursor hovers near the bottom right, I pass it up as iron. The Etrac is starting to amaze me. I dig about three clad coins as well. Those coins on the surface can appear real deep and are hard to pinpoint!! Yesterday, I dug a 12 inch hole and never could get my Propointer to sound off. I finally ran the propointer around the rim of the hole. It was a quarter laying on the surface!!!!! I have got to learn how NOT to get fooled by surface coins!!! They appear deep sometimes.....at least for me. Of course, I am a rookie. I got my etrac this last wednesday.

It has been a few weeks since finding silver. It ALWAYS satisfies me, no matter what coin it is. (But I must confess to loving the seated ones. Well...AND the Barbers)
Thanks for looking.

nice finds man! love those multi-silver holes....:clapping:

It only gets better!! LOL Good Luck with the Etrac!

Nice finds Kevin! Thanks for the pictures. Surface coins will usually be a 3 or 4 sound hit. You'll go over it and hear each hit when the 4 parts of the coil pass over. Don't go by your depth indicator as it will read 12 inches one hit and 2 on the next.

Congrats on the silver and indian head =) As mentioned by others a surface coin will give multiple signals as if there are two targets or something. After you dig a few you'll get the hang of it.

Thanks y'all!!!! I have a Sunray 8inch coming. A Forum friend is loaning it to me to see if I'll like it. Ya know....in Minelab Coin Pattern, I get quite a bit of nulling at certain parts of the yard. I mean....all I have to do is lay the coil on the ground and it goes null, and swinging it too. Will my Etrac still find stuff even when its nulling?? I have yet to hunt the parts of the yard where the Etrac nulls alot because I think I'd be wasting my time. I've got a Deus that will enjoy those nail beds. I noticed, on the Etrac, when I hit those NULLING locations, I can switch to Quickmask, and I can go ahead and detect those spots but everything reads 30- 49 or thereabouts. Likely, nail points etc etc. I'd rather hunt these loactions with my new Etrac. Should I use an OPEN screen (like the Minelab Relics Pattern) in those locations??
And thanks for the kind replies!!!

yes, dont turn your discrimination off right when you need it the most.

Nice finds! Congrats on getting another E=trac!:clapping:
When you detect surface coins and get multiple beeps even a couple inches deep
raise the coil off the ground about 6" and go over it in pin point mode and you should be able
to pin point it quickly. HH

Thanks Bart. By the way Bart, thanks for the AWESOME deal on the Etrac and the Sunray 5 inch coil!!! I have bought every detector (except two) from Bart at Bigboyshobbies. There's a reason for that. And I have bought LOTS of them.
And to Jim D., you mean, I can continue to hunt in Coins Pattern even though my threshold is silent?? I have heard that the Etrac won't find stuff when nulling. But I seriously hope that you are right!!! I love hunting in the coins mode. I slow my sweep speed down to VERY slow. But sometimes.....that's not slow enough. Sometimes, I can just lower the coil to the ground and it nulls. And if I move it slightly, it still keeps nulling. Old homeplaces have alot of nails and junk under the grass. Ph well, I'll see what that 5 and 8 inch Sunray does with regard to this.

Yes it will find them in the null IF you slow WAY WAY down once it nulls. That machine will amaze you!

Okay great! What I have been doing is swinging at a slow and steady speed until I hit a patch of ground where there are nails (likely) and the machine starts nulling. Then, I will let the threshold start back up and then swing another half inch until the null happens again, and then wait for the null.....etc etc. I finally just swith to quick mask and listen to evrything, but it's hard to overlap my sweeps and watch the screen at the same time so that I can look for a 12/46 or 13/47 or one of them purty ID's.
Until I get my 5 inch Sunray (tomorrow) and my 8 inch Sunray (Friday, that a great forum friend is letting me borrow) I took the Deus there today and found an 1897 Indian head and a 1964 Rosie (cutting it close) in the middle of a very thick bed of nails. I'm NOT DISSING on the Etrac. To be honest with ya, I get more enjoyment out of hunting with the Etrac and I wish that I would have found those coins with it. It just gives me more info. With the Deus, at 5 or 6 inches, in nails, EVERYTHING is 98. So I end up digging ALOT!!! I found a Minie Ball (58 cal) with the Etrac this morning.
It's freaking getting to where I DREAM of getting that next silver coin. I need to slow down. I don't need to let a hobby have such mastery over me. I get FAR more enjoyment from detecting when I am less passionate about FIND THAT SILVER! Now if that isn't paradoxical....I don't know what is.
The Etrac won my hear when it hit my deep silver with good ID's in my test garden. A feat that has not been accomplished by any ther of the many top end machines that I have had. Plus, I have a greater appreciation of this machine because I'm not AS MUCH of a rookie as I was almost two years ago when I had my first Etrac, thinking that it would be a magic stick. Well.....I DID find a Barber quarter with it. I'm rambling.

Don't give up! It took me a long time to learn what my ETrac was telling me and now it is truly my go to machine. The DEUS gets used occasionally, but I don't trust it like the ETrac. I tested the DEUS against the ETrac at an old fairgrounds and it couldn't see items the ETrac could. Now that I hunt TTF the DEUS never gets used because I trust the depth and ID of the ETrac more.

Give the ETrac time and you will find there aren't many machines that can even get close to it for coin hunting.

Very nice !
