After shaking off my glassy eyed stare

thats it David.. NAIL ON THE HEAD! the glassy drooling eye stare of Mr. B's finds! And no sweeter finds are made on this forum with such consistancy...hunting in that paradise must be awesome..Only wish i could do the same..maybe someday. those great camera shots allow us all to experience a little of the fun..

Well done Mr. B!

Thank you for the response. You are right the place is very important.
With good equipment and some luck and of course knowledge of what you doing the result will be pretty good.

...you imply that anyone with any decent detector could have the same results as The Bulgarian if they were blessed with access to the same wonderful location, South Beach ... let me tell you...

Nikolay is my Sunday hunting partner (usually). :twodetecting: We often go to South Beach, where he ALWAYS out-does anyone who accompanies us. I can't tell you how frustrating it is to say, "Good luck" when we part at 6:30 or 7 AM and then touch base again a few hours later, with me mumbling about my meager finds only to see him pull out a "beep"-load of goodies from his pouch. Sure, I'm always happy for him :clapping:that he found such great treasures, but it is frustrating to me, :rage:because I know that means the goodies WERE there, but I just didn't find them... he did! :cry:We both belong to the Gold Coast Treasure Club (GCTC) and a number of our members go down to SoBe most weekends. Some of them make great finds, but Nikolay seems to be the most prolific of hunters. Check out his weekday posts when he goes alone or with his daughter. Surely he is not hitting Miami's hot spots. He is hitting local beaches where "the harried father of six in a battered station wagon" and the local bimbos go to tan. I "hate to admit it," but it is a fact that "The Bulgarian" is a GOOD hunter, no matter WHERE he hunts. When you go hunting with him, you separate upon hitting the beach and (other than occasionally seeing a black snorkel poking through the water - if you look real hard) you don't see him again until hours later when you go to compare finds. He ALWAYS has a pocket full of finds. He has his own theory as to why I don't find as much as he does, and it doesn't have to do with his Aquasound vs. my Excal... ask him if you want to know.

I dont doubt that he is a good detectorist. I alluded to that when I said he knows his beach and he consistently displays the goods. You dont do that without skill and time spent in the water...

But imagine that same good Bulgarian in the water at a mucky little stock pond in the middle of AZ. There aint nuttin there, no matter how good he is.

You maks a good point, skill matters. But, sumpins gotta be there to find.

...he doesn't "waste time" talking like I do to everyone who asks, "what are you 'catching'?" and "What are you doing" and "What are you looking for?" That's MY problem, as Mr. B points out to me from afar by holding his hand up in the air to do a "yak, yak, yak" movement to indicate that I talk too much when he catches me interrupting my hunting - once again - to answer questions from curious beach goers. He says, "You complain that you never find anything, but every time I look up I see you talking to people. You can't find stuff if you are yaking!" He's right, but I don't like to be rude to curious people who innocently ask questions, so I stop and answer them. I feel it's a good-will gesture. As a woman, I think people see me as more approachable. If anyone has any suggestions of how to NICELY avoid interruptions, please let me know! I'm thinking about getting a T-shirt printed up that says, "If my headphones are on, I CAN'T hear you! Please leave me alone!" but that would be antisocial.

Maybe if I can learn how to snorkel better I can keep my head down more so I can avoid the interruptions.

Suggestions are welcome!

HH!

Hey Stacey, nice to meet you and nice comments.

It seems that in order to avoid the chit-chat, you have to at least appear anti-social. That'll be your first hurdle, as I suspect you LIKE the "socializing" there at the beach. If that's your nature, well, enjoy!

However, it might behoove you to pick your chat mates a bit better. GulfHunter, deals in this well. He knows that most folks are just rubber necking, since there are few things besides YOU to see on the beach. He handles this by answering in monosyllables and prefers "no" to most other responses. Not really rude, although gruff perhaps, it likely works.

Since you are a nice "lady with a detector," you probably DO get more approaches than men. Some responses to the queries might be:

"What are you 'catching'?"
Oh, this is a pee detector - Im testing the water. So far, this area right here is very thick with it. You should keep your mouth closed.
"What are you doing"
Im collecting trash. I get paid a quarter for each piece. It's easy money. I saw a bunch down there (point far down the beach)... maybe you should give it a try.
"What are you looking for?"
Why, did you lose something?
Invariably they say "NO", to which you answer--
That must be why I'm not finding anything. Let me know when you lose something, okay?...
