Went to a huge park today and couldn't believe my detectors!

AS others have said, smallest coil you can get, low sensitivity and start of with fairly high discrimination. Good luck. By the way, Tesoro's will also give low sensitivity when turned down, as well as other detectors...not trying to turn you away from the Garretts, but others will also work. HH
The sens. knob must be broken on my Silver umax. While it does increase the gain quite noticeably above #5, below that it's about medium sensitivity-same with my Royal Sabre.

I agree with Tom Slick.......just have turn down the sensitivity. I think in my landfill/park, the soil has an overlay.......to be expected.......and only the really large pieces of metal are noticed by the machine. Just too much of a dirt cover to get the goodies. Being a dump, the really old goodies are probably a few feet deep.

Hi Slingshot,
I was going on the performance of my Eldorado; a while back was detecting in a small area where a large concrete drain pipe, with steel reinforcing, ran underneath; had sensitivity down low (about 2); a guy who I know detects called out as he walked past that there is a drainage pipe running underneath, so I presumed he had tried to hunt there (unsuccessfully) also. I found a number of coins and a silver ring in that spot, so I presumed his sensitivity was too high, and mine was just right. I know I didn't pick up any signal from the pipe. HH

Gotcha. I can do some of that with my Tesoros. I'm thinking this guy has run into something like at my tot lot park. It's a solid signal for many feet down a strip about 6 feet in front of the swings. The Ace will really go down low-the downside is don't look for anything over 2" even with the stock coil. Now swinging the coil fast will get you down to maybe 3" on a quarter. Of course, that's not the important thing which is skimming the top 2" without the belltone going off. It's humorous to go to this park and see all the holes in the bark chips that have been turned over and refilled. I found a gold ring doing this.
