I have this silver site. Used to be great. Last two times I was skunked. That's OK. I keep expanding my grid and I've still been finding wheats there. Had some luck last night. First find was the "Ireland" ring. Special to me, I won't bore you with why. Middle of the hunt I found a nice spill that turned out to be two wheats and a 1916 Merc. I built some suspense, waiting for a few moments to turn it over to check for a mint mark. Alas!!! No "D." No "S." Still a great find! Wheats were also all over the place. I found 11 which is pretty good for 2 3/4 hours. I also found that big statue thingy that is marked England on the bottom. I was hoping it was an old bank but I think it's an "Indian" lighting a fire. Maybe a match striker. I couldn't find her head. Some buttons, keys, what looks like part of a flute. One very cool find was a copper play penny dated 1954. It was growing dark out and the bugs were out in full force. I decided on five more digs, then done. Quarter. Quarter. Big penny spill. Ring. Looked like gold but it's only gold plated. Has a hallmark of an "Indian" Chief in profile. Possibly made by Native Americans. I think it's fairly old only because of how deep it was. Deep for a ring, anyway. Number 30 for the year. I was only steps away from my truck and got a half dollar signal. It turned out to be the 1943 D quarter, down around 8 inches. I couldn't think of a better way to end a great hunt!
Here's the rest of the story. The site is an old school. It was moving up night for fifth graders so the place was mobbed with kids. Many were playing near where I was swinging but none dared approach. In fact they were lined up in a long row at the edge of the playground watching. It reminded me of one of those invisible dog fences. One brave little boy of around 8 finally came over and you can guess the rest of the story. All of a sudden I was surrounded. I had to explain my need for space many times because they were continuously moving into my path. I was OK with that. I was happy to have polite and well behaved kids watching me. The were very interested, and frankly, I wanted the company. They told me that during recess they weren't allowed where I was searching. The limit of their play area was where they had lined up earlier. They seemed to enjoy their little trip into the "forbidden zone!"
I'm not detecting all that much lately and the hunts I have managed were so boring I decided not to post them. To complete a thread from a few weeks ago. I had all my vehicular violations fixed and dismissed. I paid the ticket that I couldn't get fixed. The whole ordeal cost me around 500 bucks. Ouch!
