Happy belated birthday! Thought I was the youngest detectorist on the planet and I will be turning 27 this September too.
It seems the 17" coil is great as everyone has said in open areas with little trash and with edged coins. It does seem to miss those smaller targets such as small bullets. Coin wise..... you may have to worry about losing small size coins such as Half Dimes in areas where there maybe a little bit of trash. Not sure about that one though. You may also have to worry about missing small jewelry.
Yesterday I covered a ton of ground with my 17" coil..... oh say about a half-acre in 4 hours time. The coin targets were few and far between with a bunch of bullets around and some iron. I ended up find a Zincoln, Wheat Penny, and my first Indian Head Penny this year. The Zincoln was way off by itself. The Indian Head was almost in the same hole as the Wheat Penny. Indian dated 1897 and Wheat was 1918.
