Well we're back!

Thanks to everyone for the prayers and thoughts while my oldest son and I were on our camping trip this week.
We had a great time together and we both really needed it.
Yes Betty, I did take some canned food and it was a good thing too because it has been (and continues to be) very hot here. It was 100 degrees in the shade on Wednesday! But not humid, so that was good, but the fishing was very slow!
We swam alot, fished alot, talked alot and grew closer together.
I have never posted pics anywhere before, so here goes. If it works I will post more.

If this worked, it is Jacob as we are heading out last Saturday morning.
God bless,
MM

OK, so it worked.
Now for the rest of the story...
We had a great time and caught some pike and bass, no pickeral though. The water was very warm because of the heat, they must have been very deep and we could'nt find them.
My family and I have been camping before, but not just Jacob and I on an island. Well, Mom was worried Jacob would get hurt - so I got hurt instead, in one day I stabbed my thumb while carving Jacobs name in a log, cut my foot on broken glass while swimming, broke the view screen on the digital camera, and to top it all off at the end of the day while fishing I was standing up, casting while steering the boat with my foot on low idle speed when -you guessed it- my foot slipped, cranking the throttle up and throwing me out of the boat! I managed to hang on to the boat and shut off the motor, but lost my rod and reel. What a day! But God was there each time and no one got seriously hurt and my son learned how NOT to steer a boat!
He made his first fire with "flint" and steel (actually magnesium), caught his first pike, carved a knife and sword with his pocket knife, washed dishes in a lake (environmentally friendly soap-Ivory), had a watermelon seed spitting contest, pet a chipmunk, swimming and laying on the rocks in the sun.
We had a great time
The log that we carved his name in, we threw back far into the bush. In two years I will take his younger brother there and we will try and find it and add his name to the log.
God is great and we saw it in all His creation. Sunsets, ospreys, trees, rocks, snakes, turtles, everything. I explained as much as I could about it all.
Well, here are the pictures, I hope you enjoy them, and sorry for the long post.

God bless everyone!
I hope your summer is as blessed as mine has been already!

reminded me of my son & I many years ago. Jacob will always remember these times - good going. Now if you could just learn to not be klutzy :) I am just like you & accidents. Looks like the perfect outing, steve in so az

Building memories is so very mportand, especially when they are good memories. My son is now 47, and we still speak about a few of the outings we had.

We didn't catch alot of fish, but enough. We did run to town once to get the watermelon for the seed spitting contest! We ate fish, beans, and stew, along with corn on the cob and roasted potatoes.
It was a great time.

What a great post! Fantastic pictures too, made feel like I was there with you. Tell Jacob congrats on his first pike too, a beautiful fish!! You are living my dream, brother!

I think it was cool that you carved his name in the log and then plan to go back with his brother. I hope it's still there!

God bless,

Doug

was the one who said take some canned goods, so someone else gets credit for that and I'm glad you heeded the advice given! Your pic came through nicely and you have a happy and handsome son there! Always great to be able to camp and enjoy the outdoors!

God Bless!
Betty

me back to when my boys were young. We used to go way back in the bush and stay in a log cabin.Once I showed the boys how to catch a young porcupine.Don'try this at home lol.I put an old pail over it moved the pail until it was on a piece of tin .We picked up the pail with the young porky in side.I asked the boys how they would like to be trapped like that they said no way .So we let the little one go quills and all.Hh God bless

great pic. Looks like it came out okay to me. It's too bad my father and I can't fish in the lake behind our house. One of the relations owners kicked us out.

I was lucky as my Dad took us camping every summer too. I lived all year for going camping and fishing. Just want to share the same (and a little more) with my boys.
God Bless,
MM

The log idea I got from my older brothers. When we were kids and our Dad would take us camping they carved their name in a log and tossed it into the bush. We went back to the same place 5 years in a row and only on the last year we couldn't find it. Each year they carved the new date in it. It was fun and something I remember so I thought I'd share it with him.
God bless Doug,
MM
