Well today I join the ranks of ex'smokers, after 38 years of smoking I'm giving them up, but I'll still chew, hey, one step at a time

Ray I stoped after 55 years.I threw the pack on the dash of my truck for about a week before I gave it and the rest of the carton to my cousin, that was in Sept. 2003. And havent smoked since, but could smoke one as big as a baseball bat any time.
I told Elson that any time any of the test I take come back postive with the big ( C ) that I would stop on the way home and get me a carton and start again.
Hang in there you can do it.
Good luck Shelby

You are still getting the nicotine fix from the chewing tobacco and the harmful effects from chewing is so much worse than smoking. Mouth cancer can be so devastating......just think....no eating of food through your mouth ever again after surgery from mouth cancer....and I do not mean this as a joke either. To make your quitting real......go cold turkey with everything.

Believe me, more than a couple women asked me to marry them, but I wanted no part of marriage, and the committements that came with it. It wasn't until I matured and met my wife Sharon, that I realized that this was the girl I could be happy with.

No, I've never been to Gettysburg, perhaps one of these days we'll meet there and you can show me the interesting places that you found. I too felt that the south had legitimate right against the north, and both sides paid dearly for that war. There's something very haunting about it. Yes, I like the music; those Civil War era tunes really appeal to me.

DC will be back; every once in a while, life catches up with everyone, and we have to tend to it. When I moved here from Alaska, I didn't post on the forum for over three months, while I was getting squared away. We've lost some good friends, and hopefully we are gaining new friends and acquaintances as the forum rolls on. Generally I think the forum today is in better shape than its ever been. I'm sure you remember the times when there were people we would have liked to have gotten rid of!

take your family Vernon, I believe your girls would love the history. Your right about people coming and going on the forum and like you said, I believe the forum is in good shape these days, thanks.

Ray

Way to go General Ray!!! I still chew also. I thought giving up booze was hard. The nicotine is more difficult in my opinion. Way to go and i wish you luck. it's a major accomplishment.

i quit cigarettes 12 years ago after at least a dozen attempts however i've found quitting the skoal to be equally tough.you'd think that at almost $5 a can it wouldn't be that hard to give up huh.
