WELL MY EXCAL BOUGHT THE FARM!!......(Tear)

Dig

Hey Everyone! You'll never guess what happened to me today! My detector tried to light my @ss on fire while in the water.LOL. Let me set the stage for you all. It's a beautiful day on my island here in West Central FL . The waters calm as a table and clear as glass, and I have a fully charged battery. I think to myself, I am gonna hunt all day long until I find some gold. Hahaha. Well to make a long story short, I entered the water and after about 5-10 minutes I notice the smell of burnt plastic. i look down into the water toward my waist (I wear my Excal hip mounted with the unit at the small of my back) and there are bubbles of smoke rising out of the water. Sweet Bleeding JESUS!!!!! I reach a hand down and can feel that the battery pod is hot and trying to get ready to literally burn my behind!!!! I Immediately shut off my machine and head for the beach, all the while doing a king of interpretive dance akin to the tribal ant eater ritual dance of hidden tribes in Africa, (to keep my butt from being burned). I must have been a hell of a sight to the beach goers. I took my unit over to a friends house to test it with another battery to see if the main unit suffered any damage and it tried to smoke his battery (I think the plug must have a short). Now I am really hosed, as I have been MD'ing my paychecks after losing my job back in April. To top things off I also sold all my extra gear which included (You guessed it) a spare battery and an extra Excal II. Ahh well it looks like I am going to fall to the mercy of Minelab Customer service after all. I guess I'll have to needle my way through a month or so of less detecting. The fact that my detector is broken makes me kind of want to cry, but it happened in such a funny way that I could help but share the experience with you guys....lol. As we say in my family...." Yeah that was funny....now".

Sorry to hear about what happened to your machine. PM me dig I may have something around here to help you out. Did you change that Ike- Lite connector?

I really enjoy reading your posts. I'm sorry about your Excal. But that was a funny little story. I do the same thing. Strap it on my waist and never think about it until I want to turn it off. Now your going to make me feel my battery every couple minutes. I wish you the best. There are enough people here to get you fixed up with something. Keep us up to date on what you need.

Briley--You are truly one of the nicest guys in the hobby. Aside from all the gold you find, you are setting aside the "real gold" in the karma bank. Well done, sir. :clapping:

Oh man Rob....Sorry to hear about that....I hope you can get back into the game soon....Good luck Dude....Brian

Jean you reap what you sow. But that has nothing to do with this as I have met and hunted and speak with dig on fairly regular basis. HE is a noce guy and helped many of us when we started going. BY the way was in town yesterday. GOLD-Grille -Silver (necklace 2.72 OZ) and coins. I will be back Thursday and if you are going to be there will try and meet up with you.
