Well my AT PRO arrived today and already I have a complaint..

Whoever designed the idiot earphone and cable connectors needs to go back to design/engineering kindergarten for a term or two. I couldn't even get the knobs started or screwed on even with my skinny fingers. I had to use needle-nosed pliers. Why would anyone with an ounce of common sense or the I.Q. of an amoeba bury them inside and up tight against the side of a ninety degree recess. Hopefully my future assessments will be more favorable. Can't get outside as it is pouring with flooding all over the place so I'll have to play with it in the house and see if there are any quirks lurking inside it somewhere.

Tis a nice looking machine but they could have made the lettering on the face bigger for us old farts with tired eyes. HA. And us old farts make up a large percentage of their customers. More to come.

I noticed the connectors being tucked into the housing myself and thought it looked like it would be a pain to remove and replace the connector.

I got mine today to. The one thing I noticed right off is that the lower rod wiggles. Why did'nt they use locking nuts? It surely could'nt have increased the cost that much.

Worse than a pain. They need to supply a little wrench with the package that fits the knurled knobs as you just can't get ahold of them.

I agree about those connectors!! I wonder if maybe that was a 'form over function' moment in the engineering room? The detector is very sleek for sure, and that's nice of course, but you sure better not be in a hurry when changing stuff out! Now the readout-I'm up in the air on that one, it could be bigger for sure but it seems like the AT is similar to the Scorpion for me in that I know by sound (in PRO) when I've swung over a target of interest. I do look at the ID but it's more of a glance to confirm what I already knew by the characteristics of the signal. This one has it's quirks for sure, but it's such a great performer that I think you'll be willing to overlook some of those 'little' things!

Pyledriver i Like your + thinking, It makes the world a better place???? My AT-Pro is on its way, Mickey LEWIS, (mickfin)

Bill, This is exactly why they should get the prototypes in the hands of users like yourself. Real people that tell it like it is no matter how much it would make Charlie cry! Don't put these things into production then give them to some company men to try out. What are they really going to say? I've read time after time where the actual engineers are not hunters themselves. Really this goes for all manufacturers of just about anything. I see stupid crap designed into my car and even my lawnmower! Let that engineer try to get to the oil filter on my car!

Yeah I hear you. My neighbor has a car that has the battery installed up inside the front fender well and I think he has to take the wheel off to get to it.. My Dodge Caravan has the spare tire installed underneath the car right under the front seat. Can you imagine getting that puppy out on a nasty day - or any day. There's a plug in the floor where you insert a wrench and crank the tire down and then wrestle it out from underneath the car. Getting it back in place has to be mind boggling. Remember the good old days when logic, common sense, and a sampling of brains was part of the equation? HA.

Highly doubtful. Waterproofing has to do with sealing a part off with rubber or vinyl not burying it where you can't get ahold of it. Water will get in anywhere there is even a hair line opening no matter where you hide the part. Did they think if they hid the part the water couldn't find it? HAAAA.

Bill.

Yeah I'm an old sound bug from the old days. And I've already stated many times what an awesome machine it is. No getting around that fact. But a feller has to have something to bitch about. HAA. Look at all the complaints about whether it would hunt in saltwater before it even came out.

Bill

Shouldn't have to though. Even very cheap detectors have the ability to tighten the upper/lower rod connection.

I'll still probably try one this spring but I don't think I should have to "fix" it right out of the box. At least I will know going in...

Either that or make a cheap little wrench to fit the knurled knobs and include it in the package. I know guys with really big hands and fingers who would never get those puppies attached. I have a husky friend ( 250 pounds ) and I let him play with it and he couldn't even get the plugs inserted and screwing the knobs on was out of the question. Since I've lost all this weight my fingers are a lot thinner than they used to be and I had a helluva time getting them hooked up. It wasn't insurmountable by any stretch of the imagination - just a huge pain in the arse. :)

Don't get me started on lawnmowers. I have a Cub Cadet that I have to put in the shop every year because of all the freakin' safety features.. I blame the government for that though.. you know, it is their job to protect me from my lawnmower, I am too stupid to use it without cutting my foot off... if it actually were to work!!!

Thanks you guys for all the input on those connectors. I still haven't been able to connect the headphones to the detector. I really don't want to turn the fitting and screw up that threads on the detector. I just can not get it to turn. It just doesn't seem to line up. I have the plug seated but can't turn it.
Thanks and HH . Happy Trails... Z
