Well it sure looks good, but hey the CTX 3030 is still over 5 Pounds!!!

Take a look at this post, better balanced feels lighter than other minelabs.

And I use it up to 10 hours a day.Do I have lighter saws, sure but they do not perform as well as the 066 hence the use of said saw.Would I like the same performance in a lighter package ,of course but untill such an animal is produced I will use the heavier saw/detector and and be proud of the results they give me.....

I have not looked back at the weight of many popular detectors but take the Excalibur for example. I loved the technology but it is one of the worst detectors ever built ergonomically so to use it you had to buy a straight rod but we did it.

At least Minelab listened to the fans and built something that looks really well balanced and naturally we would all love a built like a tank machine that is waterproof and 3 pounds but that is unreasonable and I don't see it ever happening.

In the water you want a beefy machine I would think and if it is well balanced and as long as you are finding targets you get to rest between finds even on land.

I know everyone has a right to their opinion and I respect that, no hard feelings just getting tired of the whining over price and weight.

Would l like it to be cheaper and lighter in weight, yes but I am more interested in quality build, durability, and ability to find targets others have missed. JMHO

Thanks

perfect analogy.

Every day there are more posts from people that have not even held a CTX 3030 saying it won't do this or that and it's just an E-Trac with a different look, that is basically calling field testers liars. Just because there are not multiple videos to verify or disprove every stupid scenario someone dreams up in their head doesn't mean this machine is not a cut above the rest. When someone has put hours upon hours running one of these machines then tells the forum it is simply amazing what this machine can do, there always has to be someone push back with some stupid comment.

Either put up or shut up already, buy you one and find out for yourself or wait until people on here start posting finds of their own to verify for themselves and add to what Randy has already been allowed to enlighten us with.

Hell, If Minelab would have trained and give away free chipmunks with a purchase to run down the shaft and dig every target you pinpointed and run back up the shaft and drop the coins in your pouch. There would be someone complaining peanuts were too expensive to feed the chipmunk.

It does not feel like 5 pounds. I would say it feels more like three. Much lighter feeling than an Explorer, even though it's not.

Remember, that most of the weight of this machine sits under your elbow directly under the arm cuff and strap. So the large muscle in your arm is supporting that weight.

It's a matter of balance and stability. Think of it this way, for you golfers. When you take your driver and you swing it back and forth you can feel the weight of the head because it is at the end of the shaft. OK now turn the club around and duct tape the head of the club under your elbow, and hold the shaft in your hand and swing the club. Does it feel as heavy now? Nope. Because you stabilized the bulk of the weight under your arm at the pivot point.

Let's look at an Explorer, the bulk of the weight is in the LCD Display head and the coil, which are all in front of your hand, and way in front of the pivot point, which is your elbow. Every time you swing back and forth your hand and your arm feel the side to side motion of that weight because that weight moves one way, then you have to stop it, and move the weight the other way. Your pivot point is your elbow, every bit of weight in front of your pivot point will be felt. The further you move the weight away from your pivot point the more you will notice the weight.

With the CTX3030 the weight is not in front of your pivot point, it is actually at the pivot point, and depending upon the adjustment, it could be a little behind the pivot point of your elbow. This insures a nice balance of the machine. Because the arm cuff is flexible, and has a strap, it actually secures this weight to your pivot point, you don't feel any weight shifting. The closer you get to the pivot point with a weighted item, the less that item moves and the less the perceived weight.

I am sure there is a mathematical formula to explain this, and I am sure that Minelab employed that formula in the design. Ergonomics is a science all unto itself. It is a highly specialized area that has taken on more importance with the high incident of job related repetitive motion injuries.

Considering that 'Doc' is the inventor of the Swingy Thingy....a excellent weight reduction device for heavy detectors.....I think he knows a thing or two about whether a machine is well balanced:)

I have been reading this forum from the beginning and have not commented, but bcoop that chipmunk analogy is as funny as it gets, that made my day:clapping:

That's an excellent description of the weight/balance ratio (factor) Doc.------Ergonomics has come to be recognized as all important & Minelab has definitely taken that into consideration in the design of this detector.-------I've got my own statement to make for those that are concerned about the weight OR the price.------After all that has been explained to us & the info that is now out on the CTX regarding the before mentioned-----if you feel that the weight is too much for you to handle---don't purchase the CTX.-----If you feel that the CTX is too much of an expense for you to comfortably handle (and that's certainly no sin)---don't purchase the CTX, it's as simple as that.--------Speaking for myself--I was (initially) concerned about the (5+ lb.) weight also but after seeing the good balance (ergonomics) this detector has---I'm "sold" on it.-----As to the expense, I've owned/used them all from the old XS forward and (IMO), each one is enough of an improvement over the last so as to warrant the dollar outlay of the next.---I fully expect the CTX to be no different in that regard in that it will be well worth the investment of the "upgrade".-----And no, I am NOT rich (except in The Lord)! :)-----------Del

strap 5 lbs of potatos to your outstretched arm and see how long you can swing it before ache sets in .you can also look forward to arthritis in old age as many users do from swingin too heavy machines when theyre younger .

But are those potatos part of a "balanced" diet?

I for one can't wait to rip my arm out of it's socket with the massive .5 pound increase in weight. Hey, if the E-Trac didn't kill me, this monster might...........:stretcher:

5lbs of potato's attached to your hand vs the entire length of your arm feels totally different to your muscles. Fatigue will set in much quicker one way. So now the CTX will be to blame for arthritis? LOL

Holding a 5 lb bag of potatoes in your hand with your arm extended, how is that any kind of ergonomic correct comparison. Stretch that 5 lbs out to 30" or more and make it perfectly balanced with an arm cuff that can be strapped to your forearm, add a handle to a perfect pivot point and comfortable hand hold then you can decide if it is for you or NOT.

I remember some of the first weed eaters, the shaft was short and slightly curved downward. By the time your finished weed eating the yard your lower back was aching and your arms were twitching from muscle fatigue because you had to slightly stoop over and reach putting your back and arms in an uncomfortable position, unless you're 4' 2" tall. These weed eaters were terrible, they worked but they were not user friendly at all.

My Stihl trimmer has a long straight shaft, no stooping over to cut the grass, balanced well and there is no fatigue with your arms or back. Great improvement.
