he had gotten to the point where he could not stand up from a lying down position without assistance. Once he was up he was fine, but just could not get up on his own. I talked to our Vet, a very good friend of mine who I went to school with all the way from 1st Grade to Graduation, and he told me he had hip displacia which is common among large dogs. We discussed putting Sherlock to sleep, but I did not want to do that. A few months went by and Sherlock got worse and worse. He had been an outside dog all his life only coming in on special occasions, but with his condition had gotten to the point where he stayed inside all the time except to go out and use the bathroom. Eventually, he got to the point where he could not control his bowels or his urinary functions. At that time we decided to have him put to sleep, because his quality of life was just non-existant. That was the hardest decision I ever made...the hardest task I ever did was digging his grave. My friend the Vet came to our house and administered the chemicals that put him to sleep. Sherlock was one of the sweetest dogs there ever was!!! I told my wife then, "No more pets! I can't take this again!!!". Of course, 2 months later she wanted to go to a breeder's kennel to look at Boston Terrier puppies. When we went she decided against them because the daddy Boston Terrier drooled so much!! She had also seen an ad in the paper about a Fox Terrier. So, the same day went to see the Boston Terriers we also went to see the Fox Terriers. The Fox Terriers were still too young to be weaned, but we picked one out. She could lie in the palm of my hand and have plenty of room to roll around...she was tiny!!!. Well that was 6 years ago and now I don't know what I would do without her. My wife decided she wanted a divorce, but I got the house (ok, I had to pay a bundle to her for it, but I did get it!) and Foxy the Fox Terrier stayed with me!!!
How can you not love a dog this cute and sweet???
