Great saves on the CW lead A.D. One of those bullets may have passed through my Great Great Grandfather's shoulder. He was a young Infantryman from the 44TH Georgia Volunteer Infantry and was first wounded, shot through the shoulder at Antietam, or Sharpsburgh. You are very fortunate to be able to hunt an area so steeped in our American History. That was a good hunt indeed with some very nice Historical Saves. Congrat's.Saved some Antietam lead today , a lot of it was found where Lincoln visited , within feet of a famous photograph.
Nice finds! The small piece on the upper right looks like it could be from an Enfield rifle.Saved some Antietam lead today , a lot of it was found where Lincoln visited , within feet of a famous photograph.

Yep , that’s what I was thinkingNice finds! The small piece on the upper right looks like it could be from an Enfield rifle.
Awesome! I believe that if those fellows had shot as many bullets as they dropped that war would have been in a month.Saved some Antietam lead today , a lot of it was found where Lincoln visited , within feet of a famous photograph.
Every place I hunt is legal. Not sure why I’m being questioned, it is illegal to detect national park service and you will go to jail. I have many permissions surrounding the battlefield that are private property, the battle of Antietam encompassed more than what the park service owns. I am fortunate to have many friends who own amazing properties, the grove farm or Mt. Airy where Lincoln reviewed troops, d. Smith farm, 5th corps encampments, warren/ porters reserves areas, etc. Most spots I have soul permissions. I’ve been detecting for over 18 years and have never stepped foot on park service ground with a detector, I’m actually insulted by you questioning me to be honest. If you’ve been detecting long enough , there’s ethics that go with it.OK' Antitumdigger, is it legal to hunt the National park, or did you hunt private property. I think any find taken ilegal, isn't a great find, it's teft. Now on private property, it's great. Did the op hunt legal?

He actually ended up asking me in the post if the hunt was legal? I guess I come from a place of honestly, and wouldn’t imagine that a guy would post something illegally, forgive my ignorance. I deleted all social media because of crap, thought I wouldn’t have to delete a family friendly metal detecting forum .From just reading the posts I dont think anyone was accusing you of illegal activity. If you would have stated it was private property surrounding the area then it would have been clear. Sometimes leaving out a couple words causes a thousand word inquiry......
I shouldn’t have to even mention private property or give away areas I hunt completely, and where else would we detect bout privateFrom just reading the posts I dont think anyone was accusing you of illegal activity. Antietam, Don't take it personal, was just a question. Nobody accused you. You hunt leagal, it's all good. Sometimes you should make it more clear. I don't know everyone on thia site. Reason I asked was some people don't care for laws, they ruin it for the rest of us, I have metal detected since 1984, I have seen good and bad. I apologize, like I said , I guess I don’t realize that there are fellows who detect illegal, and would even post such things. I’m guessing for every hunt I should say private property.. with land owners permission. I didn’t realize you would do it any other way from where I’m from. I’ll be more clear, I’m lucky to work on farm equipment and know most people in my area, or have some connection. I live on a farm myself that was the largest officers established field hospital after the battle of Antietam and our farm also served as a camp after the Gettysburg retreat route. Tons of history around here, and I’m blessed. Sorry if I jumped the gun.Antietam, Don't take it personal, was just a question. Nobody accused you. You hunt leagal, it's all good. It's all good. It happened to me years ago, not on a forum but at a club. I went to Gettysburg with afriend to see his mother who lived outside of the park, but still was a staging area for Confederate troops. I found minnie's, a button, and 2 Enfield minnie's. Showed them at a club meeting and was accused of detecting the park or buying them. Next meeting my friend came and set them right. Clubs not around anymore. But I'm glad you understand.I apologize, like I said , I guess I don’t realize that there are fellows who detect illegal, and would even post such things. Definitely understand, I quit going to our local club years ago here in Maryland because every fellow was like a vulture wanting to know where you found it , I couldn’t take it. Next thing I know , guys would be looking for my vehicle , lol, and I’ve heard that before. It's all good. It happened to me years ago, not on a forum but at a club.
