Wedding band found

New member
All, as most of you know I am new to this and looking for the first "gold" ring. I found a wedding band the other day mens and it is copper and has a very light tint of Gold (almost looks brass) on the top above the two side ridges. I dismissed it as a cheap wedding band until a minute ago and I saw a picture of another band located and shown today. The one shown was gold from what I read and it also had copper color sides on it. I understand gold does not tarnish from Salt/sealife and remains it tru color. Is this correct or could it change colors from long exposure to the "briny life?" I guess I need to clean this baby up possibly? Thanks for the input

Gold comes in 3 different colors, yellow, white and pink.(or rose). Depending on the Karat, and the alloys used to make the ring, it can vary in color. Is there a stamping inside indicating the Karat....i.e. 10K, 14K 18K etc. If you could post a photo it would help. Gold plated rings are often made of copper and then plated over.

I will get a photo and see if I can get it detailed enough to post. I still do not have camera with Macro feature. Thanks

Hi Folks; Believe it or not I actuallly have seen "chocolate" gold. Yes it is brown. It must be a new type. What do you guys think????? PEACE:RONB
:spin:

Gold will not tarnish, but take in to account when mixed with other metals to make 10kt. 14.kt or whatever its not in pure form. You may have found a 10kt or lesser kt. ring. 10kt. which is mixed with copper at 40 to 42%, a little silver at 11 or 12 % and maybe around 6% of zinc so yes it will tarnish given a little time. Its the other metals thats you see doing the yucky. Gold mainly comes in three colors, but can be mixed to form pinks, reds, purples, blacks, greens or so on. You said nothing about any marking, and a lot of times there will be no marks due to sizing or maybe just a custom ring unstamped. Test it before tossing it.
