We thought our machines were BROKE !!!

We went to a old Picnic grove today to detect. Our detectors Deus with 11x13 -11 inch and 9 inch ALL X35 coils would not work properly. My friend with his Equinox 800 would not work right either. We tried everything we could think of to get them to work properly and no luck. We decided to leave but i wanted to stop and thank them for letting us detect. I told her i thought she had a electric fence shorting out and to make sure her cows were safe. She said "Oh that's right a cow this morning went through there electric fence and they had not had a chance to check it out and thanked me for reminding her. About every one to 2 seconds We were getting a Pulsing tone on our detectors.
If your out detecting and you get a continuous signal it may be caused by a shorted out electric fence

One thing I forgot to add to the issue. In the last few days we have HAD A LOT of RAIN ( I bet we have had 2 to 3 inches of rain) The ground was pretty well soaked . I am sure this also added to the problem !!1

This reminds me of a time when a friend and I went relic hunting at a farm. We had to cross an electric fence. I didn't think the fence was on. I touched it and said "see, it's not on". Then, it lit me up! I was used to the old fences that had constant current. That's when I learned about the pulsating kind. Lol

Yep. Been there...done that, except I was about 13 yrs old and urinating. Thought I was going to be sterile for life.
Moral - - - NEVER TRUST A FENCE WITH A 'BARE' WIRE AND PLASTICE GROUNDS ON THE POSTS.

PS - Shock therapy is serious medicine and not for the faint of heart...or stupid teenagers. :yikes: :rant:

Hahaha! Almost did the same thing myself when I was a kid but my dad yelled at me like I never heard before. He wasn't being mean, just want to keep me from peeing on the electric fence. To this day I still thank him, otherwise he might not have grandkids! I don't think anyone would do that twice! Stay safe out there!
 
You can get an inexpensive tester. It simply clips to the wire and a probe on the other end sticks into the ground. Light on clip will either stay on or pulse depending on the fence style. Also, watch when crossing fences, if you kick up taller dead grass that lays on the wire it could start a fire.

You feel that right down to your toes.
Newer shocker fence's.
Have a sensing circuit looking for a ground to trigger the high voltage pulse.
A broken fence wire on the ground will continue to pulse until something burns up.
And like Ronstar said.
Any weeds or grass getting into it will burn.
This could also be a source of interference.
As it will keep pulsing until the grass burns away.
Windy days that interference could be intermittent.
As grass is blown into it irregularly.
Very irritating
Though not hard to find.
Follow the crackling sounds

10 fold better than being in the city ,,,,
 
I ran into problems on a favorite soccer field that has ground transformers with burial wire running across to the stadium style lights. Getting anywhere near to the burial wire will drive a machine nuts.

Not my Little Mojave. Worked it directly under 33 thousand volt lines going into a substation.
New Tejon appears to do nearly as well.

My machine for soccer fields is a Cibola with Cleansweep coil. Have tried the CTX with noise cancel and got the same results. Any time you get within 10 feet of that buried wire, your machine will go nuts🤣.
 
The Old Fisher CZ analog detectors had copper sheeting lining the inside of the control box
I have detected right up to and along the fence of a substation with the detector experiencing no EMI
