WE NEED A MODERATOR!

And it ain't going to be me. I spend too much time on here as it is anyway. Do we even had a moderator for this forum or is it somebody who moderates other forums and just visits this one once in a while to check on things? I'd like to see Stickys done on VDI charts, the battery/charger thread, coil options, setup and use of the Sovereign and Excal, and so on. Much of this stuff gets buried into the dark deep regions of the forum never to be seen again unless you search for just the right words. Who's with me?

This is one of the best machines on the market yet there seems to be no major PR campaign for it by Minelab or anybody else for that matter. Many people could used guidance on things from hooking up meters (most probably don't even know you can put a meter on it), using the stock charger (how many hours to charge, etc), adding a remote PP switch, making the machine lighter, the reason why it is king of the beach and can water hunt easily because it comes chest/hip mountable right out of the box (unlike other machines), and so on. Also, while I'm thinking of it, if you go on KellyCo's website and look at the GT you'll now see some excerpts from a new book on the Sovereign. One of the guy's quotes is that NOTHING comes close to BBS technology in terms of running smooth and getting maximum depth in the worst of ground conditions on things like the beach. I think he calls it the king of beach machines, though we all know it's also kind of the deepest of coins and unmasking on land. This machine needs some advocates to save people from buying another detector at the same price (or more) with much less in the way of performance compared to a GT or Excal.

amen on the excal.....:detecting::clapping:

+1

The Excal is a great machine no doubt (I own 3) but not the Holy Grail Depends on where U are hunting determines the machine to use

Be a good idea.

I believe David at Dixie detector was set up to be the moderator for the BBS forum and i am sure he check it out a bit like Art and I do and will try to answer some of the questions people have as we been using the Sovereigns for 15-20 years with some great success, There are some we just read that have ideas That we don't agree with and hate to start a war and feel with some experience they will see what some of us are talking about. No one is perfect and no area is perfect.
There was a excellent site Ken Wildherre on the Sovereigns and it gave so much info on anything about the Sovereigns and coil that we used to send many too, but Findmall didn't like us posting link to it and scrambled the site when we posted it. I know he closed the site down too and think he may have started it up on a different web page, if he did this site really is good for info on the Sovereigns.
What I would like to see is more great finds with the Sovereigns and the Excalibur's, where found, coil used and how deep it was with the sensitivity your were using.
I would love to show you some great finds, but only been out for a few hours this year because of health issues and have very little to show for it like I was doing a few years back.
Moderator would be great if it was someone like David at Dixie that knows his Sovereign well and has the time to check the forum everyday.

Did someone say "coffee"?

If I see a question that no one has answered I try to help. It is not easy to read line by line several hundred posts.

I will stop by more often.........

Critter,

I thought you were the Moderator. You seem to know more about my Sov than anyone else outside Minelab (and the're not telling)

I can see your point for wanting a moderator to hang around to evaluate posts and threads for pinning at the top of the forum.
I got tired a long time ago at seeing the same questions asked over and over again. Sometimes the same question two or three times on the same page, and even only two or three threads apart.

So what would a moderator have to do? Decide which subjects should be pinned and which should not.
On a lot of forums there are a lot of people who don't bother looking at the pinned topics. They just go ahead and ask the same questions anyway.
A lot of people will never go to a frequently asked questions section, or even look for it if it exists. Many people never do a topic search.
It will never end.

The usual moderator duties on most forums will be to delete spam, cool off hotheads, delete hostile posts, ban troublemakers. Usually not needed around this forum.

A lot of times Stickies will organize things so that questions for those who do their homework can check the Stickies first .....I do my homework, but sometimes you don't remember the thread , or remember where things were posted ..... After you are exhausted from trying to find information , you end up just asking the same question that was already covered because you can't find it searching in the forum ..... I'm not saying that everybody will use the Stickies , but I'm sure that a lot of people will ...... As you mentioned, we're all pretty civilized here in this forum ....We don't need a Cop, but could surely use an Organizer ......Jim

IMHO This could have unwanted consequences. But if there was going to be an official Moderator Rick and Art would be my pick.
