Wanting a new V3 ...

Willee - Texas

Well-known member
I am very interested in the new Whites V3 detector with its new displays.
Have called around to dealers in my area with no success.
Can not even buy one from another dealer by mail order because of White's dealer policy's.

Anyone know of someone willing to sell me a new V3?
Would really like to save at least the Texas sales tax.

Are you saying that your dealers can't or won't get one for you? Or they don't have one in stock and you want someone out of state to buy one and send it to you?

None of the local dealers keep them in stock and dont really know anything about them.
If they are going to order it then why cant I order one from out of state and at least save the sales tax.
(because of White's policy)
It is a no risk sale for a dealer and I would think he would be willing to cut the price.
(again I am quoted White's policy)
I could understand if he stocked them, but a walk in, prepaid order is a no risk ... no brainer ... no overhead, instant profit sale.

I am on my own about learning to use it no matter who I buy it from.
Good thing this forum is here ... learned a lot about them already.

I understand you are between a rock and a hard spot and I would negotiate with your locals if you don't expect/want training. You might be able to get a discounted price that is cheaper with tax than to buy out of state with shipping and no tax.

If you are prepared to wait, there will be used machines out there within a couple of months for a substantial mark-down. It's not that there's anything wrong with the V3, it's just that it's quite a lot of money, it doesn't suffer fools gladly and some folks will either get buyer's remorse or get hard up for cash.

Happens with everything. I read a report of a White's TDI for sale for less than $1000 recently - glad I bought mine when I could still pay $1,600!!!.

Yes ... I agree with you about that.

If one of the local dealers had one in stock I would have bought it today!
But they do not.
The three dealers that are within driving distance have not even seen one and do not plan on stocking them because they are so expensive
(they sell a lot of Prizm's).
What valued service does White's think they are offering me for their instant profit from my order?

White's policy of face to face sales only is keeping me from buying one from another dealer in another state which would save me the sales tax but will cost me the shipping.

However, the free market being what it is, I am sure, by flim or flam, hook or crook, I will have one by this weekend.
Hard cash still seems to talk, while the BS walks.

White's current marketing strategy worked real good back in 1974 but for 2009 ?. But that's White's rules And we all must respect there rules ... not much we can do?

With the world wide web I have absorbed so much Information on the V3 over the last 3 weeks, I really don't need hands on with a V3, I just want a V3 period.
What's frustrating is I drove a fair distance to a dealer and that dealer would not discount ...so back home with no V3, like lytle 78 said will wait for the use ones to hit the net.

Whites of New England has a few Visions on hand and told me that he is getting 28 Spectra V3 on Friday.

Willee,
A friend of mine did just what Larry (IL) suggests; he negotiated a better than the sales tax savings on a V3, had the dealer order it, payed cash on pick up when it came in two or three days later and is out loving life with the V3. Since the dealer ordered it, dealer also charged the battery and did initial check out to make sure it came through shipping alive. If I had enough margin in the budget right now I'd do it too.

Willee----It's just like lytle 78 said in his response.--There will be a few V3's on the secondary market in a couple of months or so for somewhat lower prices & with free shipping.---It happened with the Etrac and it happens with many products.--It's not that there is necessarily anything wrong with the product, it's just that people sell for various reasons.---Also, Whites has the advantage of a transferrable warranty.---Maybe you're like me though, when I want a detector--I want it NOW! ----Del

I am willing to bet that if someone that has a Vision and was to put it on E bay, They would Dubble there $$$$$$. There is alot that wan't them but can't get them. You won't see the price go down. Not for a long time.

I dont think so.

I doubt if you could sell one for $50 over new price on ebay.
They are just not that scarce right now even though the demand is high.
If you got the cash, a Spectra V3 will find you if you put out the word you want one.

I do think this new White's detector will be around for a very long time.
Like the Minelab Explorer it is a very high quality tool and offers a unique way of analyzing metal objects in the ground.

I cant wait to see what the other detector makers will come up with to compete with it.
Wonder what White's is working on right now in their R&D labs.

They are tracking the serial # and whites is known for giving the Boot to dealers that do not play Fair...

it was nice talking with You the other day.... it has been a while .......But like I said ...I only sell face to face...

Hope You Get a handle On One....

But personally I like the That new box never been touched Smell....I would hate to buy a traumatized metal detector....
it could suffer an identity crisis when it grows up .....;)

In my search for a Spectra V3 this last week I have come across some "White's Dealers" that work out of their home and do not stock any new detectors.
Some will have a few used detectors but nothing new "in stock".
They are very happy to take your money and order you anything you want.
Sort of an instant profit with no investment or risk.
The good thing is that most of these hobby dealers actually do get out and use the detectors in the field and can give you a lot of good information.
They are treasure nuts like the rest of us and will willing share information and experiences.

Personally, I think White's should stop fiddling with their dealers and the market and stop selling their detectors thru discount dealers like Kellyco.
But that is their business and who am I?

I was prepared to pay retail price for a detector that I might have around for more than a year or two.
However, I was able to find a USED V3 that a fella owned for two weeks and decided it was not for him.
I must say White's warranty transfer policy is a good thing and I thank them for doing that.
White's has always built a quality machine and their support on repair work is as good and often better than most.
I think White's has come up with a real winner this time and is once again on the leading edge.
Something truly advanced (being a Minelab technology derivative makes it even better) and different than their other detectors.
I am looking forward to being in the White's corner once again and using what seems to be the next hot thing in metal detectors.
