Several nights ago I took the double score out,I wanted to test the 6x9 coil I bought. I live across the road from a very old church, and seeming I’ve never formally asked for permission I only go there at night..I’ve pulled lots of old coins, silver half’s and even a bust dime from over there..
So, I was moving along and pulling some wheats with no problem, honestly that machine is really good..but I got a real choppy signal, high and medium tone that was all over the place…Pitch dark out and I cut the plug, pinpointer going off in the bottom of the hole and something keeps getting in my way, like a piece of long grass,,ever time I push it away it falls back in the hole..Pinpointer light hits it and I see it shine, I looked and realized it was a chain.. It was down about 3 inches and coming from the side of the dirt so I chased it, cutting a bigger plug…. After I get it out I find a big square nail in the hole, churchyard it’s full of them..
I filled in the hole and swung over it again and still got a mid tone but the church goers started to pull in for night mass so I left. I was thinking all night there was probably a charm in the hole, so I went back the following night and found what I thought was a lipstick cap in the bottom of the hole I redug,, come to find out another forum member told me it’s a buggy brake…
The score does not see the gold chain no matter what, it’s 14 k and no matter what I do the double score don’t see it.. the Mx5 does with a ID of 2…So, it was a very lucky find , if not for the nail falsing I might not have stopped for the mid tone of the buggy brake thing,,and stumbled onto the gold chain. The chain is fully intact, not broken in anyway..I e been re thinking the whole gold thing and what I’m walking over ,and not digging because my machines don’t see it..Thanks for looking, just wanted to share a very lucky find that had nothing to do with the metal detector finding it..
