Well went to the beach yesterday it was the first time going to this beach my wife likes this beach and it was packed there's only 50 or so yards to the water and so packed only 1 foot between chairs no kidding at first I thought this is going to suck . as the day went on things cleared out and there was room to md. after my share of bottle caps and pull tabs a huge tone a solid vdi of 93 it said 10 in down so I started digging well more like 18 in. At first I thought soda can this deep that strong a signal the green bar off the chart that's why I did not give up scoop after scoop still in the ground then one big scoop deep pulled it out scanned the hole IT'S IN THE SCOOP ! Shake Shake Shake sounded heavy in the scoop I looked and to my amazement a walking liberty but I have to ask when did they stop making the walking liberty's this one Say's 1988 ? here's the pics

It's not a walking Liberty Half Dollar....they stopped minting them in the 40's.....It's a silver dollar round....Minted commemerative piece.....and it looks like it has seen some wear....My guess is that someone was carrying it around as a good luck piece and lost it on the beach....That person must have handled it alot....that would explain the wear...JMHO....Brian

so it's not a silver dollar so just worth silver ?

Because THAT is not a Walking Liberty! THAT is an American Silver Eagle, still in production. Check this out, you can still buy them.

The US mint began production in 1986 on these. They are 1 troy oz. .999 fine silver.
Back in '05 I recovered 7 of them inside about a 6' area with the Mark II out in the surf, here are the jewels here.

2 weeks ago. Came out black and this is after cleaning, lots of crud was on it. All the silver coins I have found in the wet salt sand/surf come out really black. HH John

Great Find. Not as rare as the half dollar but if not a key date your find is worth more. Congratulations! HH :minelab:
