Vortex V9 is going to be here Jan 09

Ordered it back in September and got notice it was going to be here the 9th of January and it is 8 below Zero here in the Dakota. It going to be a while before I get out to use it. Will have time to read the manual and and read of others that will get there and hope to to read about those that can get out and get some good tips.
Going to be looking for some wireless headphones that will have very good volume for my bad hearing as the Vortex dont come with any headphones. I see some are selling the Garrett wireless headphone and the the orange pin pointer that are wireless so the sound will come through the headphones, so that is something I got to look into more and those that have them would be nice to let us know how they work.

I am going to need a new body as I am not ready to give up yet if I plan on detecting more.

Well unfortunately Rick I canceled my pre order for the VX9, I could have already had one if I would not have canceled my order

I just could not follow through with my order simply because I feel the Vortex has to many unresolved issues, after speaking to a friend that has been using the Vortex, I felt it was best for me to wait until Garrett gets the issues worked out on the Vortex before getting one, do I still want a Vortex (Yes) as long as Garrett resolves the issues that the Vortex currently has

I feel the Vortex has great potential but rite now it cannot even compete with the Mine Lab Elite or the Nokta Triple Score

Do I feel Garrett will eventually resolve the Issues I do, just not all of them

Tell me about it brother, I put in for a new body for Christmas, but got a new detector instead.

That did cross my mind and sure hope it was like the Troy X5 & X3 Shadow when he seen some problem and corrected the problems before they were released. Maybe Garrett did the same, I hope anyway. I am sure we will find out soon when people will get out to try them..

I'm pretty confident you'll be ok with the new detector. Looking forward to a good report from you. I'm really looking to see how dunkable the unit is going to be. I'm still a bit chicken to submerge the nox 600 even tho its a later run unit.

I got it in on the 9th as was told, seems light weight compared to many I tried. I had to start it up to see what it sounded like before charging to see if I put everything together right. It stared up fine and waved a couple of coins across the coil and seems to be good, but the battery went low before I did any real test, so I put it on the charger and took about 9 hours to charge. For a while I was wondering if it was charging or not as after 2 hours it still showed only the first bar flashing, but after 3 more hours the first one was on and the second was was flashing and at 8 hours the last one was flashing and by 9 hours all the bars were solid. My charger was a 5 volt and 2.2 amp output, so it did take longer than I had read and will have to get out when the weather (Snow and cold) get better and maybe even leave it on and run the battery down to see if the next charge will take as long.
Like the way the locks for the shaft works as there is no wobble like some I have seen . Got to read more of the instruction and the setting and see if there is a tone to see what the highest tone is so it is not too high as my high tones for my ears is not good. From what I had seen this Vortex tones on a quarter seem to be about right. The cable for the coil fits tight in the spot in back of the detector fit tight and seem to have a rubber washer built on the connection. . It has 3 different plug in the back, 1 is for the charging, the next one is for the headphone and will have to have some sort of a adapter to use wired headphone as I never seen one like this one and then there is the opening for the coil. All three have a cover on them and connected together so a person wont lose them and wonder if they will be replaceable.
I wish this detector came with the wireless headphone as we need some kind of headphones if we want the deep signals, I am hopping to get the Garrett wireless headphones with the probe that is also set up that has a built in transmitter so all audio will come though the headphones from the detector and the probe.
I hope in a day or so I can do some testing indoors as it is jut too cold outside right now and the rest of the month I understand will be below zero.
