vision/spectra v3 driving me crazy

this dang thing makes too much chatter and i cant localize any targets. i have it on factory coin settings. i was in a bean field where an old house once stood and another church yard.

when i swing, it makes a noise and when i swing back, it won't pickup in the same place despite the same swing speed and exact same swing arc. the ground isnt highly mineralized as far as i know, but the field did have a lot of junk iron, and stuff.

i guess i need to find a regular old playground and focus on modern change rather than what im doing.

what suggestions do the readers offer?

Turn your gain down. Put in about 7, and it should quiet down. If it's still too noisy, turn it down some more. If it's quiet, you can try bumping it back up one number at a time. If I get phantom beeps like that, turning down the gain one or two numbers fixes it right up.

That sounds like a gain and sensitivity problem. Sometimes I have to turn the gain as low as two to get it quieted down, That will vary depending on what is causing the noise. Once you locate the old building and church and iron becomes your problem, you might want to try the High Trash program, that worked very well for me in very trashy areas. Playgrounds are a good way to get to know your new V too and of course read the owners manual.

I have mine at 15 usually in this area but I do notice the one thing you're speaking of....it almost always gives a tone in one direction but not coming back...that is bugging me also as this doesn't usually happen with my other previous detectors....don't know why.

Do you know what your battery voltage is? I was hunting yesterday with the same problem, (one way beeps) and then I noticed that the battery voltage was down in the 8 volt range. I got a fresh battery and everything was OK.

Yesterday I was getting the one way beeps, too. My voltage was strong @ 10. They were fairly strong signals sweeping to the left, but, silent on the swing back to the right:stars:

Today I was working my regular site running my machine in coin jewlery with gain at 12 with the boost ,worked fine all other days but today after about two hours of run time she started grunting at me ,checked the battery voltage which was 9.82 ,checked headphones they were at 2.62 , took battery out reinstalled it lowered the gain ,but could not still use it pass 2, took the boost off still would not go past 2,changed programs to beach mode still the same reaction reloaded back to factory settings still same. That's odd??? any one out there with similar problems? had to leave major dissappointed

What does the threshold sound like when you're balancing? If it's pulsating independant of motion, this is a sure sign of EMI. Try frequency offset or running in single frequency mode. Of course, run reduced sensitivity and/or lower discrimination numbers to clean it up.

Voltage was over 10. When I test a coin on the surface it's fine. I tried different filter settings but didn't help too much.

I tried the high trash and it only handles 1 cant be an emi prob I go to this park every week with no prob I cleaned the cover nothing no results .

Do you have another coil you can try or borrow? Something don't sound right since you have been using the gain at 12.

I can't even pass 2 on the gain I have no other coil to check with, I will give it one more try in my yard tomorrow to see what happens there was no need to ground balance here everytime, When I tried to ground balnce there would be no change so I guess it was set to go .This just started this past weekend all other times it would run normal, I would be able to max the v with no prob. Also I been noticing that I am getting the stereo effect and the bang with the headphones I think it might be time to send it back

I'm far from an expert, but have had my V for quite a while. Here's what I've "learned". Remember, my soil conditions in Califronia mountains are very minerialized.

Getting the V stable is a matter of getting the ground balance and adjusting the Rx gain to the recommended value using the probe. After doing that, crank the Disc Sens DOWN...I usually do this about three notches at a time, but end up around 78.

If the V is still unstable, keep dropping the DS while leaving the Rx at the recommended settings.

I was very leary of this low gain and low DS until I actually started finding deep stuff. I think it's my old max gain "training" from the MXT days.

I had a bad 10D2 coil that started acting up after about three hours of hunting. I sent it back to White's and was lucky enough to have my new one delivered personally by the White's distributor. No problems since.

Here's a quick test that I didn't invent....Turn your Rx gain to 2 and gently tap the bottom of the coil with your finger while holding the coil in the air. If it registers, the coil is defective. IMHO.

I've been checking out V3's and in two instances, have found that a bad coil has been the culprit for the one way sweeps. Another vote for it being a bad coil.

I had one that did the same thing, I started with being able to max it out and then something went wrong, I couldnt turn it up past 6 on the rx gain without it going nuts. I sent the whole unit back to whites to be fixed and they just sent me a whole new machine and coil.
