VDI on gold coins

bula

Member
Seeing that I have not found any gold coins as of yet, I thought I would try to get ready for when I do. I only have one problem, being poor I can't afford to buy any gold coins so I thought I would ask. What VDI number do you get from a gold coin. Say a 21/2, 5, & 20$.
I know some of you have them hidden around so lets give it up.

Don't feel bad Bula, Larry nor I have ever found a gold coin either. Someday.:twodetecting: HH to all, Nancy

Closet i have come to a gold coin Almost had to wash my pants that day.Only worth 13.00 dollars us.But still would like to find more.

Small gold nuggets, gold earrings, gold chain will read at -20 to 0

Small gold rings, gold earrings, gold nuggets will read 0 to 15

Most bigger gold rings, gold nuggets, gold $1 coins will read 15 to 30

Largest gold rings, larger gold nuggets will read 30 to 45

Gold $10 coins will read 70 to 78

Gold $20 coins will read 79 to 81

It is best to dig it all if you are looking for gold........

Nickles will read around 18 to 20

Clad or Silver quarters, Sacajawea "golden" dollars, S.B. Anthony dollars will read 82 to 88

Clad or Silver halves, Large cents will read 89 to 92

Clad Eisenhower or Silver dollars will read 93 to 94

Thanks for the info Hillbilly Bob, I will try to put it to good use.

I put the Clad and Silver up there to show how the Gold and Silver readings are so close that you have to dig all signals to really find the gold items......

Wish I could tell you first hand but..... someone put out a chart when I first got my MXT and these are the numbers they gave. I can't remember who published it
on one of these forums...

26 - Gold Coin 1/10 oz
52 - Gold Coin 1/4 oz
72 - Gold Coin 1/2 oz

77 - Gold Coin 1 oz

Based on (91% gold , 3% silver, and 6% alloy)

That's pretty close to what I have posted, 1/2 oz. would be a $10 coin and 1oz. would be a $20 coin worth more money today but old $20 dollar gold coins were exactly 1oz. And because of the silver content and the other alloys is why the numbers vary so much.

Various posts indicate a $5 gold piece can read anywhere from 45 to 60. But on my MXT, an old US $5 gold piece reads a solid 47, using the 5.3 coil. HH Randy

Is that in the ground or air testing? $5 gold coin would be about 1/4 oz.

That give's me a good idea of what to look for, now all I need is for my coil to pass over one. Thank' for the info.
