VB to unleash a metal detecting debacle!

Having recently retired from the city PD, I still have frequent contact with my successor in my old position as the department's coordinator for all of the special events that occur on the Oceanfront. Knowing that I'm a MDer, he called today to let me know about a new event that's occurring this weekend at 31st street on the beach. Seems that a two story high pile of sand will be used as a "treasure mountain" for kids to climb and search for the TEN THOUSAND QUARTER SIZED ALUMINUM TOKENS that will be scattered on the mound. These tokens will can be redeemed for small gifts at several oceanfront stores. Of course, immediately following the event, the mound will be bulldozed flat again, along with most of the unfound TEN THOUSAND QUARTER SIZED ALUMINUM TOKENS. I'm just speechless.:surprised:

where is this beach at???please clue us in....:detecting::surrender:

Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Sounds about right for the decision makers in Virginia Beach. All we used to have to worry about were bottle caps and tabs. Now we can expect the leftovers from this event to litter the beach. BRILLIANT !!!!!:ranting:

maybe try to get there before they scatter the tokens, there may be something to find where they bulldozed the sand from!

oh boy what fun....:clapping::detecting:

They could have used plastic ones, cheaper to make, or am i reading this wrong and the kids are using detectors?

Nope, no detectors for the kids. Don't know how long to redeem the tokens, my guess would be not long.

Some body had a hunt like that in Memorial Park in Houston. They used Clown tokens after 10 to 20 years the are still being dug up.

the new virgina beach beach token free to all who want one .....
and with alum. at an all time low of???? the whole pile should be worth a few bucks anyway...lmas
