Vaquero

Was thinking of buying this machine,Tejon got my attention also. I have read some post saying it is a fast machine and some saying its slow, lol. I also read some post saying its deep as long as your in milder type soil. Ive read some that say its good in Mineralized soil.
I live in Louisiana, sort of northcentral part of the state. I can hunt east of where I live thru the delta areas or west and north of me which are in the hills with tons of red iron ore clay. Do any of you guys hunt with this machine in red clay areas? How well does it do for you?
What coils are you using with what type hunting? I was pretty hot on this machine or the Tejon, but probably the Vaquero until I read some post on it not being that good in a highly mineralized soil.
Thanks
Bowie

Since the Cibola is the same as the Vaquero, minus manual GB, they should handle the same sweep speed.

I used a Sovereign for years and it had to be swept pretty slow. With the Cibola I can sweep the coil much faster and I'm not missing targets.

Now I don't swing it crazy fast because that's never been comfortable for me.

I'd be surprised if the Vaquero can't handle red clay with the manual GB. Could be the GB might need to be tuned more positive to make it work in that kind of soil.

My Tejon is currently my first choice for relic. I have had a few hunts where it got me through while some of my other machines didn't due to terrible trash/soil conditions. The 5.75 coil enabled me to stay and continue hunting. Others may not appreciate the chatter it has over some other machines, but I like the way it talks. Some of the little things I've plucked deep with the Tejon is something to appreciate. My Tejon is a keeper for me.

I don't think that you will have a problem with the vaquero as long as it is ground balanced. I love mine and can say that I am impressed with the depth. :usaf:

How fast you sweep the Vaquero would depend on how much trash or how mineralized is your soil. Sometimes going real slow with a smaller coil will increase your finds.

In real trashy areas, it is best that you also have a 5.75 coil (I use the Vaquero) so you can pick out the good sounding finds from iron nails and other trash. I hit this fav spot 20x a year and must have swept my coil over this button at least five times. I didn't find this until one time I used the small coil and went real slow...it was no more than two inches deep.
This is an old Spanish button with the #1 on top of a fleur de liz. It is almost the size of a quarter but is very thin.

This next one I found with a Sov also in an area that I have hunted heavily for years. Interestingly, I was even using the large 10 inch coil but for some reason had my sensitivity set near the lowest level. [attachment 68729 Ceylon1898b.jpg] This is a Ceylon 1898 coin found in Manila.

What does this mean, can you explain?

"good sounding finds from iron nails and other trash"

Macaco: i see you use the Tesoro Cibola... Is the Cibola easy to use?? How is the pinpointing on the Cibola?? Do you have the high tone Cibola or the low tone Cibola?? Do you find gold & jewelrly with the Cibola? I'm thinking of buying the Cibola next year.. I currently use a Tesoro Silver sabre U-Max detector. p.s. attached is a photo of a man's 18 KT gold ring I found with my Tesoro Silver sabre U-max detector down 4 inches in a hunted out trashy invested park. Thanks, dano. What do you think about this gold ring??

I meant that the Vaq can help get the good finds in trash and iron nail infested areas... :).

You can have multiple sounding targets under the larger coil but the small coil helps you isolate them so you can tell the good sounding ones.
