Vaquero vs Tejon

You hunt in primary discrim....get a hit. Switch to alt. If it's still there, most of the time it will be clad...or silver. But, you have the option to dig or not dig. If the signal cuts out or becomes choppy in alt discrim, you dig because it is in the range of targets you are searching for.
thats what you wrote therover!
I think youre not quite right!

let say you are looking for low conductive target like gold.
set your disc on iron and the alt disc on tab.
you get a good signal and you push the trigger and if its cracking you think is gold and you dig(but is probly a biger iron)and if you still have good signal you dont dig because its an aluminium you think.OR IT COULD BE A GOLD BRACELET WITH HIGHER COPPER %!
THE SIGNAL NOT ONLY DEPENDS ON CONDUCTIVITY BUT MORE ON SIZE!if you use this theory you will cheat yourself sometimes!

I belive:
set your disc to knock out small iron and DIG EVERYTHING ELSE!better to dig little more than loose items.
even if you get crackle on alt disc it still could be an aluminium if its little far because on higher disc setting you loose depth and the aluminium that was reachable on lower disc now around the end on the higher setting and crackles even if is really high conductor because its far.

I belive the tejon is still a good machine because the alt disc knob doesnt weight too much!
but i would see a volume knob instead much better!it would be more usefull.

In that the only way to get as much as possible is to only discrim small iron and dig everything else. I was only trying to show how the alt discrim could be used.

I can tell you that the Tejon is not a great machine in real mineralized ground. That's one of the reasons I got rid of mine. Here in N. Bama we have a real mix of areas with some good ground, medium, and pretty bad. So, I stuck to my MXT and right now I'm also learning the XT-70, which operates pretty well in bad ground.

I think for now I am inclined to take the Vaquero. It is the :tesoro: I have the most experience with.
But who knows by then.

Thank you all for you input.

I think most people that have problems with the tejon in bad ground don't realize the ground conditions can change quickly. When mine gets unstable, I pull the pinpoint and check the GB. It is usually off. I've seen ground conditions change every 100 feet in places. Actually I like the fact that it tells me when to GB. My ground varies from medium to really bad. I've hunted places where iron ore was laying on top of the ground. As far as depth goes my yard is mostly red clay and I can get a good signal on a bullet buried at 10 inches. The only problem I've had is with larger iron giving a good signal but this is a problem with most detectors.
