The whole process is in that book you have on mastering the Vaquero. It even mentions Monti's name (If it's the same Monti) it's at section 8.4 (Power Balancing) Location 750 and the author said he varied slightly from Monti's recommendation.
Ahhh OK. I just started to read the book again to see if I could find it. I couldn't remember if it was there I read about it or not. I read through it quickly the first time but now I will have the detector near by for reference to knob setups and what not. I will check the power balancing section tonight after work.
The Vaquero is a very nice detector. It loves nickels along with copper brass and lead. You will be amazed at the tiny deep targets you will find with the Vaquero.
Invest in a good set of headphones and get the 5.75" concentric coil for hunting in the trashy spots. Good luck with your new Vaquero and Happy Hunting !
I will be getting the small concentric before the ground thaws. Mostly for tight spots in the woods though. I guess it will also be good to have in trashy parks once I get around to searching those.
The Vaq is already light weight with the stock coil and I imagine even lighter with the small concentric. I did a little hunting before the ground froze with my now sold Bounty Hunter 2200 and the webbed 8¨ round coil was hard to maneuver between the tree roots and large rocks and was catching on the loose twigs and such. The small concentric should help remedy some of those problems.
1.. Power Balancing a Tesoro and 2.. Not all of my post being there:
1.. Due to the way most Tesoro circuitry designs were done, YES, if you 'Power Balance' a detector properly, in the silent-search motion Discriminate mode, then odds are the result will leave you with a somewhat negative Ground Balance in the All metal mode. That's due to a design off-set in the Disc. mode's GB references off the Threshold-based All Metal mode's GB setting.

2.. The loss of some of my posts, going back quite a ways, was because Findmall did an update of their website and didn't activate the system to allow the use of characters which I use frequently. If you don't read the rest of this post reply, then it's their fault.
For example, to make a one-half and one-fourth indication some people use a 1 and 2 and 4 number and a / bar to look like 1/2 and 1/4, but I use ½ and ¼ which are faster to type and look proper. A 61/2 inch coil looks better typed 6½".
Also, the microMAX Tesoro models are NOT using a lower-case letter u but the electronic symbol for 'micro' which is a µ symbol.
I might also use things like ® or ± or with Tesoro models names I use the ó in DeLeón or é in Téjon. I had a lot of posts going way, way back get chopped off at the point I use a character that they hadn't activated to accept.
