Vaquero unboxing video

Metal Monster

New member
Hello everyone.

I received my new detector a couple days ago and since the ground is too frozen to do any digging I decided to shoot a little footage of me unboxing and assembling the Vaquero. Not the most exciting thing to watch but it will give you an idea how a new Vaquero detector comes in its box and how long it takes to put it all together. Really looking forward to using and learning this machine this summer.

Tesoro Vaquero - Unboxing

Enjoy!

I disabled ads for my video but they still appear at the beginning. Not sure what's going on. Moderators, can you check the video to see if it's OK? If not, then I will just ad a link that can be copy/pasted.

I also just got a Vaquero and really like it.....so will you. There was no adds on your video that i could see and i really liked the music.
Thanks and HH
Joe
Quick question: When you attached the coil to the shaft did yours have a stainless bolt and screw nut encased in Rubber?________ Mine did but i bought it used

The OEM coil bolts and nuts are a plastic/nylon type bolt with no metal.

Thanks... I will probably change over and get all nylon like you have. Someone told me that some of the Vaquero's came thru with brass but i think i will change over to your setup.

you should like it. i do mine. great little detector.

Okay, many years ago a lot of brands of detectors (not sure about Tesoro) did come equipped with smaller brass or steel screws with plastic thumb caps, but along in the later 90's the mounting holes in the coils and the rod end were enlarged to except the modern 1/4" nylon bolts.
I don't know how long the Vaquero has been in production but the way to tell is to look at the diameter of the mounting holes, if they are considerably smaller than 1/4" inch (very old style now) then that would suggest a metal screw.

Mark..... That was a good piece of info. The hole in mine is 3/16".....Now to decide if i want to drill it out or not. Seems to be working fine just the way it is and ground balances out just fine with no chatter.
Thanks Again,
Joe

You shouldn't have a problem unless you get an optional or replacement coil, if they are the newer style then you'll have a sloppy fit at the coil. I had an older LST coil that had the little mounting hole in it, but there was plenty of material at the mounting tabs to drill it out to 1/4" with no issues.

Vaq is a good machine, better in Iron than i expected and deep , I was amazed it got my 8" dime in this ground using a concentric, perhaps i did not give the VAQ enough time . hope you do well with it in your upcoming hunts,

Thanks. Having the detector in my hands and not being able to use it is killing me. Winter blues are here for a few more months.
Do some research on "Power Balancing" and "Super Tuning"

Mark

I have been doing lots of research and learning lots but it's like trying to learn how to play guitar by reading about it.

I've read about super tuning but does power balancing have to do with a slightly negative ground balance?

If your really bored because of cabin fever try this very informative book "Mastering The Tesoro Tejon and Vaquero Metal Detectors" it's only available on the Amazon Kindle Store but can be read on your computer or smartphones/tablets with the Kindle App.
I'm on my third read presently and learned a real lot.
You can just search the heck out of this forum and learn the same thing but i just like to read a few pages before bed at night to cheer me up :)

I read that book while I was waiting for the detector to arrive.:) I will be giving it a second read very soon. Excellent book for Vaquero and Tejon owners.

Each time i read it i pick up something i missed on the previous read....:detecting:

I've got Tesoro shafts and coils with both types of screw and can't tell any difference between the plastic and the brass.
