Vaquero or Eldorado

I would vote for the Eldorado, but its partly because I have one and it works just fine for me. I like the all metal/discriminate switch better than a push button all metal, because it allows hunting in all metal with an audible threshold.

Hi Stewart

You said in your post:

Then I was looking at used ones and seen an Eldorado for $264.It seemed to have about the same stuff as the Vaquero, manual GB in all modes is the main thing I was lookin for in this N.GA. soil.

If the E. is right at the same as the V. at a lot cheaper price, should I go that route?

First off is depth,Does the V. go deeper than the E?
I know that the V. replaced the E.,But what are the real differences?
What are some pros and cons of each?

First, the Eldorado will not go as deep as the Vaquero.

The Vaquero has a push button momentary pinpointing mode. The Eldorado has a toggle switch that features a discriminate mode, an all metal search mode and a spring loaded battery test position.

The Eldorado has a wider range of acceptance of conductive materials. According to Monte, this ability enables the Eldorado to penetrate through difficult soil conditions better than the Vaquero. I believe this ability is better for artifact/relic hunting. You can better identify iron by size and depth. You can also find small iron and steel items like gun parts easier with the Eldorado.

I have not used either of these metal detectors in the field. But I have a Euro Sabre which is similar to the Eldorado. I have also owned a Cibola which is similar to the Vaquero. I have an Eldorado but haven't had a chance to use it in the field yet.

I prefer the Eldorado over the Vaquero. I think the Eldorado is better in playgrounds and at artifact/relic hunting.

Good fortune,
what about the euro, and how does it compare with the pantera. looking for a detector for the wife appeciate your help in this.
There are several differences between the Pantera and the Euro Sabre.

The Pantera was the last good notch discriminator, in my opinion, because it allowed operator control of the dual-tone audio break-point using the Notch Disc. control even with the Accept/Reject function turned 'Off.' That's the same as it was on the Pantera and Golden Sabre Plus before it, and the Golden Sabre II that followed (using Pantera circuit boards). The Pantera has the ED-120 Disc. circuitry.

The Pantera used the longer ABS housing as found on the current Tesoro Lobo SuperTRAQ, and used also for the Toltec II, 'original' Lobo, and the Golden Sabre II. All of these models were/are powered by two 4-AA battery packs and use the old-style battery clips. Due to the size of the housing and the added weight of the batteries located ahead of the handgrip, these models tend to be noticeably heavier than the newer

If you get it for your wife, watch out, you'll have to pay plenty of honey does to get to use it:rofl:

we do allot of hunting together, and i think using that detector once in awhile to make sure it is in fine working order is the least i can do:detecting:. and thanks for the wealth of knowledge. good hunting
