V3i > How to reject foil > Asian region

Hi,
Hello this is my first metal detector. Basically i use the machine as turn on and go. Polar plot as the analyze mode.
But >90% of my findings are aluminium foil. Coin = NONE (14 hours of hunting)

Plot plot shows straight lines but one of them are missing. VDI number 55/56 for big can.
I am concern that how can I reject the foil? And how can I know the VDI reading is correct or not?
Where should I start to tune my V3i? Filter?

I dont have friends with Whites machine here. A friend of mine told me that I have to set the V3i myself, because the preset setting are not compatible in my place, Malaysia.

Your question is too vague. We need more information, like program, soil type etc.

To answer your first question put some foil on the ground and reject the VDI numbers the detector sees for foil. Do you know how to reject VDI?

Turn off the icons since you won't be looking for USA coins. Do you know how to do this? If you have hunted 14 hours in a place that has coins and haven't found any, you need more help than can be answered in a single post.

We are all trying to learn to setup our detectors for optimum performance. Basically that is what you are asking, we can't answered it all in one post. Ask one specific question at a time. If you don't know how to make adjustments we can give you step by step instructions but then you still won't understand why the changes were made.

How much time have you spent with the manual? Are you using the on board manual? Have you used the search feature of the forum to read any past posts?

You asked, And how can I know the VDI reading is correct or not? For now put your coins on the ground and check the VDI they read.

Plot plot shows straight lines but one of them are missing.
Send a picture.

Of course you are also rejecting small gold. So it isn't that great an idea.

I was wondering about that, guess I will have to take the on line class when and if it's ever offered...

Sorry.
Can we reject foil in other way than rejecting VDI number for foil? Because bigger size, gives larger VDI number.
How can I identify the target is valueable or foil?
Polar plot does not help in my case.

One more thing, I use C&J setting when hunting.
The preset Rx gain = 7
But the MD will be chatty, I have to lower down to 4 to make it quiet.
Is there any problem with my coil?

Run the coil test. Hold the coil waist high, turn off TX boost. Then turn the RX up to 15. If it doesn't overload it is good.

Foil is different size and shape so VDI will vary. This is normal for all detectors.

Thanks Rob for the explanation.

My coil does not overload at Rx=15. So its OK.

How can I identify the target is foil or not?

Again the only way to tell is to put samples of the type of foil you are finding and see how they read. Where we live there are no coins that come in the foil range. Gold however does.

Your problem is not foil. From your post your problem is identifying coins. You should still be finding coins. I'm not sure you are even setting up your detector properly.

Its a V3i, shouldn't it have coins similar to what he is looking for? I thought that's what the "i" is for... international. I realize Whites can't program every coin VDI number but there should be SOMETHING to get him close.

"I" is for the languages. It has nothing to do with icons or VDI. If I want to know what a peso reads just throw one on the ground. It can't get easier. Even the icons can be changed to TEXT. You can have the icon say peso.
