V3 WORTH IT?

I had commented earlier regarding the fact that I recently bought a V3, and had a chance to get out on a recent business trip to the no frost zone.
Now I have never been to any of the parks in that region previously, and did a bit of online search with google maps, and a little internet sleuthing which gave me some places to go out and try. Overall I'm very happy with the V3, and see lots of potential in it above and beyond what I've recently experienced. I have no reservations about saying it's money well spent, based on how enjoyable it is to use, and it's capabilities. I can't wait to get out again, and again, and again. Here is a picture of what I found in a few hours at a couple different parks, over a couple different days. I actually found one tree that had 60 pennies in and around the base of the tree, all shallow zinc stuff, but it's the biggest coin spill I've ever come across. (arggg my back hurts from picking zincies) But everything in the picture was found with the new V3, most of the quarters were 5.5 inches plus in the ground.
The dimes 2-4 inches, nickels 5 - 6 inches, and the ring was a solid find at 6 inches below the surface. I'm learning more on what to look for with nickels and I have no doubt this is a nickel hound, and a serious ring finder.

You had a good year Yazoo.............:surprised:

The V3 isn't for everyone, nor is the XLT or MXT or ......

I think one reason why so many people have had success with the V3 is because they never really learned the XLT and got the gains increased to get the most out of it. The V3 stock programs are not mellow like the XLT so you start out with enhanced performance.

That said, one reason some people haven't had success with the V3 is because they haven't yet learned it, and because it starts out with programs a bit 'HOT' for many applications. They haven't got the hang of taming it,m or opting for a better coil for their needs.

"It could .... was certainly a correct, honest , and safe answer.

In the end, neither model might be the right fit for some people as they aren't simple enough. (I am referring to the detectors. )

My question is how is it as a prospecting machine? I am looking at getting one. Like everyone the price is scary. But I am looking for a machine that I can use thats good for prospecting but I can also use for coins/relics, etc. I currently have a DFX and did have an MXT but sold it. Wish I hadnt..<sigh> The mxt made a good prospecting machine. My DFX is ok at prospecting but not as good as the mxt was...my opinion...could be wrong. Anyway, I want to know about the V3 and if its worth me getting it for prospecting or am is it like the DFX, a great detector but not as great a prospecting machine though it is good. I hope I am putting things across right. <sigh>

So true. Its no wonder Monte is so well regarded. Honestly, he needs to write a book on the hobby.I love my V3 and I know its more than I need but I love being able to learn all the many things it has to offer and that's what it all boils down too is mastering your machine or at least one part of it the part that you use it for. Really learning it and becoming at one with it.
Thanks Monte

Is the V3 worth it? This is my opinion. Everyone seems to agree the V3 has more power.
How much ....... I can't say for sure. One has to ask themself is the added cost worth the
added depth and is it all that much?

I agree that all of these machines take time to learn however since I had my V3,
I have found that the Spectragragh is not something that is tottaly accurate now
can it be relied on. What shows on the screen does not necessarily mean that
is what is in the ground.

Yes, V3 has more bells and whistles just like the XLT and DFX. We can tinker,
play, adjust and readjust all we want.

Regardless of which of these machines, I think the only hedge and the best
advantage we have against missing good targets is to did all.

In the end we adjust to what we think is the best settings for your hunting
stlye. I don't think we can rely on the Spectragraph gizmo 100%.

It's just a tool to aid or help but I don't think we can rely totally
on the accuracy.

Just my personal opinion.

I also own a M6 and that little detector with a DD eclipse coil is a real gem! No hassle just happy hunting!

I have just been doing some forum reading after a 9 month or so break.
Seems the same topics and questions keep coming up.

I am pleased to see you are still out there and giving sound advice (re Spectra)

Thank you very much for all the many many hours you spend typing out advice for those of us with questions, and for your long suffering patience as well.
You are an incredible asset to the hobby and I hope that people realize that.

I wish you all the best for your 2010 hunts - may the God of good finds smile on you!

John
