Hi All:
I did the *exact same thing* last week with the V3 and MXT. I programmed the V3 to be sounding off on all VDI above 0, mostly-standard coin and jewelry program, 10 high filter, 2 second sweep speed, Freq offset +2, 10dd coil, Rx about 12 Disc around 85, AM around 75, 3 freq. mode, wireless headphones, tracking inhibit on.
I gridded VERY CAREFULLY (but nothing is perfect) about a 25 x 15 section of my favorite ballfied using the v3 digging every target, including trash. I found about 15-20 misc. targets, clad, trash, whatever to about 6". Oh yeah, and a sprinkler system joint. Heh.
I then gridded VERY CAREFULLY the next day (so moisture in ground should have been
about the same) with the MXT in coin and jewelry, disc above nail below nickel, gain at +2 and the stock 9.5 concentric. Same sweep speed, tracking set on ground.
(The Marshall- Hows them settings for ya?
)
Here's what I found: I got about 10-12 additional targets, but it wasn't because I was "missing spots"
almost every find was a deep pulltab (6,7,8 inches) or small foil. There were a few pennies and a dime were fairly shallow and would have sounded off on the V, I just missed them in my pattern.
What does this tell me? The MXT was more sensitive to small items (like very very small, stud earring small, micro slaw small) and that it catches low VDI items that are deep much better...this is true, however, with the V3 spreading its power across three frequencies.
IF I had run the V3 in single frequency mode it would have been a more accurate comparison. I will do this next time.
In the mean time, now I am going to go over the same are with the TDI, which is a discriminating (for the most part) PI. I cant wait!
