I was ok with fixing my cracked cuff, but this one initiated a plea for help from Garrett. I should be ok as I'm under a year with the machine. Bummer timing though. :stretcher: I don't consider myself hard on equipment so this is.......... what it is....I suppose.

Hi Upnorth, thats exactly what happened with mine about 2 months ago, I never take my headphones off but I was doing some die-electric grease maintenance about 2 weeks ago and noticed it had separated. I have a mail into the eastern dealer here. I sent it 2 weeks ago now and still have heard nothing. Mine is just over the year of buying it. It looks to be a defect with a weakness at that prom.

Wow...I have not taken mine apart since day one...I hope I dont run into this if I ever do...thanks for the heads up to be super careful.:please:

Bummer, upnorth. When I changed out my stock headphones with my amphibians, the contact was corroded. I had not taken the stock headphones off since I bought the At/Pro early this year. From now on, I will do a better job on maintenance. I can't get the lower rod loose either, but don't intend to break it by trying to hard. I did clean the contacts as best I could and put silicone grease on the o-rings.
Hope they get you fixed and back in action soon. M_d, hope they get your detector back to you this week. I'd hate to go 2-3 weeks without my detector. I might not use it in anywhere from 2-5 weeks, but want to have it in hand if I feel like doing some dirt fishing.

I bought the package with the water phones etc. I have switched out maybe 5-7 times since bought. Garrett answered my email immediately and directed me to a distributer in British Columbia.

Wow, that's nasty UN.

Yeh, I'm leaving mine right where it is (connected).

:)

I would but I have the water phones also. I kind of wish that Garrett left the old large pin jacks on the land headphones. I have a large pin set that has been used a lot in the last three years, and zero problems with it.

Interesting that you mentioned corrosion as for the life of me, that's what mine looks like. The wheat crop is half off here from a late spring. But the Durum is still standing. My favourite field still has Durum I guess, as it isn't combined yet. I can live with no phones or even use the water set if need be for now. Darn the timing though eh ?

It could be a number things that caused it UN. I use Die-Electric grease (Silicone Grease) on the plug-ins and used it the first day I received my AT Pro.

If you need a good repair shop in B.C. their is one in Langley who is a Garrett dealer as well.

Ask for Allen. They sell electronic parts as well, so I'm sure they could fix you up with that broken plug-in.

The information and phone number is in the above link.

Hi UN, I did originally send my concern to Garrett USA, Norma there answered me the following day and directed me to the eastern Ontario dealer here, I have emailed them twice in the past just over 2 weeks and still no reply. I emailed Norma tonight with my concerns about no reply to my ATG issues.

The headphones are a warranty issue, if they are still under warranty they will be replaced. Garrett does not supply the plugs, they are proprietary.

There's a weak spot in those connectors. The first time it went, I sent it to Garrett and they replaced it. I made sure to put a light coat of grease on the new one, but it still did the same thing after a while. So, I got the dremel out and ground it down until I could re-solder the contacts, and filled it up with marine epoxy (JB Weld). That little sucker ain't never gonna break again!

Oh, and they did address the arm cuff problem - have them send you one of the new ones. I got them for both my ATs, and no problems since. (Of course, I had just bought a lifetime supply of 4" PVC a few days earlier, heh. Maybe I'll get creative and make a *functional* stand out of it).

All is well. Garrett directed me to the western Canadian distributer because I am in the west. But I bought the machine from Ontario so the west coast gentlemen directed me to Canadian Treasure Seekers in Ontario. Pat and David at C.T.S. took care of the issues immediately and everyone that I dealt with in B.C and Ontario was kind, patient, and considerate. Thanks everyone.

Glad to hear it! Now get back to work finding those goodies! ;)

I'm glad you got it taken care of UN, I sure wasn't aware of that problem and thanks for bringing it to everyone's attention.
I will be keeping a close eye on that for sure.

William-NM - That's a great idea and thanks for sharing it. If mine goes south, that's just the way I will fix mine.

I forgot to mention that I used dielectric grease on the O rings from day one.

Now yesterday I noticed a horizontal line across the display screen cover. I brushed my finger nail across it and it seems like there is water or fluid between two laminated layers. Jeezuz, does this ever stop ? I really like the machine but I have never had a metal detector with so many on going materials\construction issues. Maybe I am just having bad luck, but it's getting tiresome.

Hey UN, I just received new headphones from Garrett, no charge, I also took pictures of the same issue I have with the horizontal bubble in the lamination. I emailed pictures of the screen to Norma at Garrett, did not hear back yet. The line on mine is about half in wide and the width of the screen, the same happens with mine when I touch it, the bubbles and water move away. Try emailing garrett regarding both issues, good luck, Jon.

I would highly recommend calling garrett on that issue UN, it should still be under warranty (I hope).

Garrett is great at taking care of their customers.
