Used Etrac's

Great info JD. My initial thoughts were the Patriot or an F75+. I used an F22 this year and enjoyed it. I also like the battery life and batteries on the Fisher. I saw the price of the eqinox and multi cruzer and thought why not get one. Glad you mentioned the F75 and I am curious if anyone else has compared it to the minelabs.

FT,

I wouldn't discount the 800 or 600 because of the rechargeable battery system, Having both the Etrac and 800, I find them to be complimentary detectors. I would feel uncomfortable to have only one or the other.

Thanks Rich! It is wild how the different experiences of others and further research can change one's mind. I was almost thinking of buying the F75 again after some other reviews and comparisons. :)

I have a T2 ltd, Etrac and Shadow X5. Dry sand at the beach they are all about the same in depth. Wet sand the Etrac beats them easily and is smooth as silk.

The Etrac is also the best of the three at ID at depth.

Ive used a lot of them and the depth thing always makes me shake my head....if every detector truly was "an inch or so deeper" as claimed we would be digging to china by now. There are limits that apparently cant be beaten or haven't yet, and the more you use detectors the more you see how a lot of it is just marketing.

The three I have are all fantastic machines and specialize in some way or another.

Great feedback! I really appreciate it!

I feel like you Rich ... I jumped on a used Sovereign GT and wish I had waited on an E-trac.

I absolutely love the Etrac and the Exporer PRO, go with the stock Pro Coil as it is better for pinpointing. Just look at the many youtube videos and you see the majority of the detectorists using the Stock coil, its for a very good reason. It was designed for these machines and IMHO pinpoints better. My 2 cents!

Thanks for the info and I'm glad to hear that you love your machine. I jumped on The Equinox 600 for 5:50 with the veteran's discount because I couldn't find any etracs in my price range. I'll be careful with it and I figured I could trade it for an etrac if I didn't like it.

Will do and thanks everyone!

Which dealer offers vet discounts for minelab?

They all should since they submit it to Minelab. I know Kellyco did for me.

Ok,thanks

This will be my fourth Etrac. I sold my last one about two years ago. I’ve tried other detectors but keep coming back to the Etrac. I Just never bonded with them like I do with the Etrac. I sold one a few years back and it about 11 years old and still kicking. Maybe one day I’ll try a Nox. But for now the Etrac is all that I need.

It takes awhile to learn the language of any detector and that experience goes a long ways when your out in the field. I've had my F5 now for about 4 years and I'm still picking up small tips and learning more.

I think that if folks would take more time learning their detectors, they would hold onto them longer and would benefit from better finds....I’ve had a few ML detectors, and still have 3 of them!!!......I hope folks continue to go crazy for the EQ.......Maybe I’ll land a good Soveriegn GT for cheap !!!.....I built a light weight Explorer over the Winter and have been having a ball with it.....Besides the CZ’s the ML’s still rule the beach !!!.....Jim

BTW.....I’ve NEVER considered selling my ETrac.......It’s the best all around machine that ML has built to date IMHO......Now if I could reverse the aging process, and could detect longer with my ETrac, I’d be in good shape!!!.....

Agreed, but!, it also tends to make a detector become attached to the user to the point they refuse to upgrade when it become available

I have a firend I've hunted with for going on 40 years and he still uses his DFX and E-Trac. The E-Trac is still a competitive detector so not so bad. The DFX, in experienced hands can also be a great detector, but not so much a competitor as 10 years ago. I replace my DFX & E-Trac with the EQ800.

Even the most experienced user of any dated detector will be held to the limits of said detector.

Southwind
I agree with you if the detectors are no longer competitive, but a lot of my dated detectors are still very competitive......Most of them are ML’s.......I beach hunt so they don’t really become obsolete.....I’ve found Silver and Gold with all of them.......,same with my CZ’s.......Jim
