Used Etrac's

Good day all as soon as my waiting period is over I was thinking of putting my Shadow X5 up on the classifides to possibly get an etrac to hunt some of the older parks in my area. I just wondered how the etracs hold up after the warrantee is gone. I love the Shadow for buttons but I want some more silver too ;-) I thought about getting the nox but worried about batteries so I think a used etrac is the way to go but I want to make sure.

Good choice, The ETRAC and 3030 still in my opinion offer the most for the least $ of anything out there today. Finds ETRAC forum and classroom posts offer years of comment and tips on the use of both machines which is a great learning tool that shortens the time it takes to be comfortable with all the ETRAC can do.

There are also tons of accessories available, books, coils, covers, pin pointers ect to compliment the ETRAC. I personally don't know of a detector on the market today that can do all that an ETRAC or CTX 3030 can do. Downside? it's heavier than you would like but for me it's capabilities offset any of those nuances.

A proven detector it is with US support and history to boot.

You can't go wrong if you want a machine that is still ahead of it's time and will be for the foreseeable future.

etrac is the last real minelab everything after that is proprietary based software & hardware and no after market coils except for a couple from coiltek (ctx) , so yes etrac and gpx 5000 the last of the real detectors from minelab  after that your locked in to minelab :punch:

Thanks a bunch for the reply Norm! I have been researching a bunch and really like the tones and depth of the etrac. I have a light unit to use as well so if it gets too heavy, I'll take a break.

Thanks again for the info and interesting take on it. It seems a lot of Explorer xs, se, and 2 guys swear by their older machines as well. I have a lot of hobbies so I've never been one to be able to afford the next best metal detector so I have kind of stuck with whatever I had at the time but it does seem like the Explorer and etrac series will find stuff that other people missed including me.

Thanks Hershey ;-) sounds like I need to :)

I love my E-Trac. I've never had a machine that produces better than this one and I have been hunting a very long time. Every time I hit a site, I am always confident that the E-Trac will find it if it is there. It's just a killer detector.

E-Trac/CTX are amazing detectors and I still have my E-Trac. Although I use my NOX 800.

Ditto

Thanks to all for the info!

Buy the E.Trac . As said I also believe its the last true Minelab . After that it has mostly gone south. Pity.

Good day all. I see the Equinox 600 is cheaper in many cases than used etracs. Without starting a new thread in terms of comparisons. Do you still feel a used etrac for $600-700 is still the best bet over a brand new detector¿

I think the NOX is a great machine as well. I do not think you could go wrong either way. I like the E-Trac because it has a much better TID system with both the ferrous and conductive numbers, it is a deep machine on silver, I love it's tones and the depth meter is better. That said there are many things I like about the NOX and I plan on owning one of them later on down the road when the fervor has dissipated and you can pick up an 800 for the current price of a 600. 600-700 for an E-Trac is a bargain for what you are getting, especially since it is a 1500 retail machine new.

I used to think having a Deus and an E-Trac was the ultimate combo. Now I think having the NOX and the E-Trac will be the ultimate combo.

You could try the 600 ..if you hate it ( I doubt) you most likely could trade it for a nice used e-trac.

Just a thought !!

Elton that is a great point! I was thinking of trading my Shadow X5 to get money towards the more expensive etrac, but why not do what you said ;-) It will be my first minelab so either way I'll like it and still have a great relic machine to use when the battery dies ;-)

I have had just about all the Minelab detectors and I just dont understand why they released the Equinox series.
Its better than the CTX-3030 in that it is lighter, cost way less, waterproof, and just as deep detecting.
How they gonna sell the CTX-3030 now that the Equinox is here?
Dont get me wrong ... I am very happy to buy a multi freq, waterproof, super stable, Minelab Equinox 600 for $700 instead of their more expensive detectors and am grateful they are saving me so much of my hard earned cash.
Its gonna be interesting how the other top detector makers respond to it and try to create something as good or better at that cost point.
As it stands right now the Equinox detector is top dog for beach and shallow water hunting in saltwater. In My Humble Opinion.

It is good to hear your thoughts on it as well Willee. I started detecting in Connecticut and my buddy had the IDX Pro and I switched from Classic ID to DFX. We had a lot of Cellar holes to hunt fields and some great Colonial areas. We did really well with our whites but the time to or two that I had a chance to hunt with a buddy that had the Explorer I was totally impressed. My other buddy had an old Sovereign or similar unit that he did really well with too so I've always wanted one but I have so many hobbies or perhaps thought one detector was enough that I never really splurged for one.

My Etrac is built pretty solid. I do not see having any issues with the unit itself. The coils now thats another story. With the new Nox and Kruzer out there you could get those new for the price of a used Etrac. But Etrac is gonna eat their lunch. Now one detector that is cheaper than the nox is the F75. Still think the F75 holds its own. Not as much info as the Etrac, but deeper and quicker recovery. But it is not a race, the Etrac is gonna give you the info you need to dig. There is a good reason you will dig a lot of pennys, thats because a guy with a Etrac has been hunting in front of you lol.
