:usaflag:What a Day !!!

:usaflag:Myself and a hunting buddy Jim went and hit the dirt piles that were removed from downtown Cook a few years back. Started out without much luck until I found a wheatie sitting on top of the dirt. We knew then that there had to be more. About a half an hour later I pulled this '43 Walking Half Dollar out of a 7" deep hole on TOP of one of the piles. I better start bringing heart medicine with me from now on. Very good day for the books !

Hey McDave,

That was a great find! Thats probably my favorite coin of them all. I guess they used to be
fairly common once upon a time but these days so much ground has been worked hard. That
was a great idea working the dirt piles. Congrats. Warm regards, Jim

I frankly can't believe you found anything in those big dirt piles let alone a beauty of a half dollar. Your persistance paid off handsomely! Great find and a great story to go along with it.

:usaflag:And once again I went to reach for my camera in the pocket of my hoodie and it was'nt there. It has become my nemesis. And I kept repeating the word until we pulled in my driveway so I would'nt forget to take a picture of my witness standing next to me..lol...He was there watching my hands shake as I rubbed the muck off and laid eyes on something that did'nt even look like it came from the ground. I love silver.

That's a nice coin. Dirt piles pay off sometimes and sometimes they don't. You will never know unless you try and if you try, you will succeed. Good metal detecting. Preserverance and effort equall success.

KInda weird.. But I remember back when I was a young pup, those were common
just in pocket change. Ditto for most of the other types, like Franklin halfs, etc..
And I'm talking about in the 60's.. Makes me wonder where they all ran off to..
I guess coin collections...
