Winds out of the south at 20-30 MPH with gusts into the 40s and the waves are jumping!!

From the vantage point of a ledge outcropping at the extreme eastern end of my hunting grounds I was able to capture a few pretty good shots of why there will be no hunting this AM!

There are a few rain drops on the lens and I am thankful for the water-proof camera!

I picked up a lobster-pot buoy and a few pieces of plastic on my walk, but I certainly didn't spend much time out there this AM even though the south wind did take the temperatures into the mid-fifties!

(I left this shot unchanged to show the low light conditions and adjusted the others to provide better detail.)

I suspect there will be some changes in the beach contours come daylight tomorrow, but not nearly as many as there would have been if this was a moon tide with extreme high and low water levels.

I suspect that these conditions and moon tide would have taken out this fence once and for all for this winter!

Thanks for looking,

CJ

that storm passed through here last night..should be good today at beach..:detecting:

and was in full force by low tide, it may have pushed a lot of sand up on the beach burrying everything since the winds were out of the SW. Take some more photos tomorrow......it should be interesting.

Looks like perfect detecting weather to me!

Hi Goldak,

If yesterday was perfect today would be great for you!!

Today's follow up!

I couldn't get to the same vantage point as yesterday because of the high tide.

This is close enough for you to get a good look!

The wind has calmed down, but the large ground swells keeeeep coming!

A high wind at this tide can push the waves up to and in some cases over the breakwater only a few yards in front of the cottages.

The large ground swells have pulled hundreds of tons of sand down off the beach and it is one smooth slope almost all the way to the cottages!

The water slams into these stone breakwaters sometimes so hard the ground shakes!!

The swells are slowing down as these pics were taken and still I managed to catch some spray!

The fence has almost been destroyed, but the steel chain holding it together is preventing the pieces from washing away.

It would seem that there is a method to the owner's madness this past year in that he will be able to re-use the posts etc!!

To the left of the post the high tide line is visible where seaweed was deposited.

This fence was perhaps twenty feet out in the rough water during yesterdays blow!!

Tomorrow the scenery will likely be different.

Should it be different and interesting enough I may post more pics,

CJ

I don't understand how he can fence of an area like that,
isn't this a public beach ?
I would hope mother nature would tear this fence down the sooner the better.and obliterate that it was ever there.

There are several fences that run from high up on the beach down to the water at high tide.

This is the only one that is parallel to the water too.

It has been destroyed several times, but replaced the next year.

It is on a privately owned stretch of beach and generally doesn't interfere with walking the beach.

Until it got destroyed it didn't really look all that bad.

CJ

The sand has been moved down off the top of the beach to well out into the water again.

It is covering the areas where I have found a few rings during the last couple of years with up to 3' of sand!

CJ

19F for the high temperature yesterday and today!

Was I really looking forward to colder weather last summer?

Come on Ya Southern Pirates post some more good stories to keep my dreams from freezing too!
