:usaflag:Had'nt planned on detecting today but...

:usaflag:........when I went out to this old homestead to pick up some free lumber, the owner gave me permission to detect the whole place. The house and barn were removed a few years back but he told me where they used to be so I could work around them. Found the four wheats right off the bat. A '44, '49, '50, and one unreadable. The other ten coins were a pocket spill in one hole, all dated between '64 and '73. Had to go home for dinner at that point...there is always tomorrow.

From the land of the Bluenose...think you have just scratched the surface on that spot. Worthy of another look see!

I agree with you. The homestead is around 110 years old and has never been detected. I can go back any time I want but the owner is moving to Montana as soon as he sells his house. So I need to get back there very soon.

Hope you get a chance to detect this area thoroughly. No telling what's going to turn up and maybe a gold ring or gold coin/cache. HH and best of luck to you. The owner was very generous to let you metal detect there. I called someone today in regards to this old church campground and they must have been pretty sick, because they sure were very rude. It does not occur to some people that you can say no to someone without being sarcastic about it. Of course, I understand when you are sick and somebody you don't even know calls you, it can irritate you. Hope they get to feeling better and hope you find something special.

Attaboy Dave! The sooner you can get back the better  Good Huntin' bud!

That's why I always write a letter ( and introduce myself with a short bio ) to give them time to think about it and make a decision at their convenience rather than a cold call out of the blue or as a stranger knocking on their door and interrupting their day. I know either of those methods wouldn't please me one bit if I were the one approached. I have a sample letter in my coinshooting column in the online magazine on that other web site that we can't mention here.
